Nghia Dan: Facing concerns about degraded dams and canals
(Baonghean.vn) - Currently, many dams, lakes and canal systems in Nghia Dan district have been degraded and silted, causing water loss.
Nghia Thinh Commune (Nghia Dan) is a locality with complex terrain, with Hieu River running through it and 3 large lakes and dams that discharge floodwaters. Of these, the 8/3 dam located in Hamlet 10 - which provides irrigation water for over 15 hectares of agricultural land in the commune - has seriously degraded.
Mr. Luong Quoc Khanh in Hamlet 1, Nghia Thinh Commune said: "Currently, the 8/3 dam system is seriously degraded, subsided, some dam banks and embankments no longer have embankments, cannot function as irrigation and drainage, affecting the production of people in the area."

The 8/3 dam in Nghia Thinh commune has an irrigation capacity for 10 hectares of rice and crops in the model field of hamlet 1, but currently many sections of the dam no longer have embankments, causing water loss and greatly affecting people's lives.
Mr. Hoang Xuan Cuong - Chairman of Nghia Thinh Commune People's Committee added: "The 8/3 Dam is degrading, so the dam's capacity can only serve to irrigate about 10 hectares. If this situation is not resolved quickly, there will be no water for the next crop. We hope that the departments will pay attention to investing in repairing and rebuilding the embankments and dams to ensure production for the people."

In Nghia Mai commune, there are 6 large and small dams supplying water for 120 hectares of rice fields, 50 hectares of melons, 10 hectares of vegetables, not to mention corn and sugarcane areas. Meanwhile, some dams such as Dong Troi, Dong Lep, Dong Troi, due to the impact of floods and storms in recent years, have been severely damaged, the spillway has broken, causing blockage of water channels. The dams have been silted up, causing blockage of water flow.
Due to damaged lakes and dams, lack of water for production, many households can only cultivate on two-rice land, some areas must be left fallow. In the long term, Nghia Mai commune hopes to receive support to upgrade and repair lakes and dams to ensure irrigation for agricultural production.
It is known that Nghia Dan district has 172 large and small dams, most of which were built many years ago; due to the destruction of natural disasters, rain and floods, they have been seriously damaged and degraded. Through review, the whole district currently has 60 irrigation works that need to be repaired before the 2017 rainy and stormy season.
