Singing soothes pain

On the evening of July 4, 2020, at the 2nd floor hall, Nghe An General Hospital held the art program "Singing to the sick" No. 15, Quarter 3/2020. The program had the participation of the Director of Nghe An Department of Health, leaders of Vinh City Party Committee, leaders of many bank branches in the province, representatives of agencies and units, the Hospital Board of Directors, leaders of hospital departments and about 500 audiences including medical staff, patients and relatives.

The charity art program "Singing to the sick" of Nghe An General Hospital was initiated in 2016 by the doctors, and has been organized 14 times so far. The program is a very humane and meaningful activity in which doctors and nurses bring songs and voices to the patients being treated at the hospital and their families, adding motivation to help patients overcome the pain of illness, be more optimistic, happy, and feel secure during treatment.

Moreover, at the programs, hospital leaders launched a movement for doctors and hospital staff, agencies, units, businesses, organizations and kind-hearted individuals to support patients to achieve good results.

The previous 14 programs have left many good impressions on the audience, especially the patients being treated at the Hospital. “Singing to the sick” No. 15 is the same.

The program has the participation and performances of doctors and staff of hospital departments; students of Nghe An Province College of Culture and Arts; singers of Military Region 4 Art Troupe; patients and their families who are being treated at the hospital... After 4 years of organization, with nearly 300 performances, the hospital's doctors and nurses have truly become "artists".

All the performances in this program number 15 were very elaborately staged. The graceful dances and singing with all the heart of “love for the profession, love for people” brought warmth filled with love, lighting up the faith for the patients being treated...

It can be clearly seen that in this program, the patients in the hospital were all very excited and cheerful. They really forgot the sad, desperate moments, the pain caused by the disease. In the joyful, warm, loving atmosphere, Mrs. Tran Thi Hoa, 62 years old, in Dien Chau district, who is being treated at the hospital, emotionally expressed: "Thanks to this program, we patients also feel more motivated to fight the disease. In addition to treating our diseases, the doctors also gave us this extremely meaningful spiritual gift, which is truly precious."

The program not only brought spiritual medicine to patients but also became a bridge between the kind hearts of volunteers and poor patients being treated at the hospital.

On this occasion, the program's organizing committee launched a charity fund to support poor patients. It was very touching to see that in the program, many doctors and nurses, without anyone telling them, quietly "gave little but gave a lot" to support the hospital's "For Poor Patients" Fund.

Similarly, businesses, agencies, units and individuals also shared the same difficult circumstances. The program "Singing to the sick" No. 15 collected a record amount of money for poor patients of 334 million VND, of which the amount of money donated by doctors and nurses at the hall was 98.65 million VND, the amount of money donated by individuals and units before the show was 176 million VND, and the amount donated from the charity box at the hospital was 59.42 million VND.

There were two very memorable images at program number 15: the image of Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Huong - Director of the Hospital went on stage to present flowers, emotionally, hugging the child Thanh Binh (12 years old, whose mother is on dialysis at the hospital) after he performed the folk song Vi Giam "Mother's Love of the Countryside"; the image of Associate Professor, Dr. Duong Dinh Chinh - Director of the Department of Health quietly taking money from his own pocket, asking the office to send it to his mother and Binh to have more motivation and confidence to fight the disease.

Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Van Huong - Director of Nghe An General Hospital shared: For patients, to overcome illness, whether severe or mild; besides the treatment process and medical intervention, psychological therapy plays an extremely important role.

Spiritual medicine at the right time and place will contribute significantly to creating motivation, bringing joy and confidence to overcome illness for the unfortunate...

In the coming time, the Hospital will continue to organize similar programs with the goal of all for the patients. In addition to being a treatment, it also attracts help for patients in difficult circumstances.

We think that the responsibility of a doctor is to bring smiles and joy, dispel fatigue and anxiety for the sick. Besides, it is to give the patients more confidence in overcoming their illness. Participating in the program, each doctor is very happy to serve. They themselves also have refreshing and meaningful moments after long days of tiring work.

The spirit of all for the sake of patients of the doctors has truly spread to the social community. Dozens of artists have proactively reached out to the program and the patients.

Famous artists who have participated in the past 15 programs include People's Artist Hong Luu, Meritorious Artist Tien Lam, and child singer Ha Quynh Nhu - 3rd Prize "Future Idol 2017".

I myself am very happy and moved to participate and sing for the "special audience". The fight against disease is a fight of each individual and the whole society. I myself am always ready to cooperate with the hospital to organize more meaningful programs like this.

Give gifts to patients in need.

The success of 15 episodes of “Singing to the sick” was thanks to the great support of hundreds of businesses, organizations, and philanthropists. It is estimated that the total amount of money that organizations, businesses, philanthropists, union members, hospital staff, and patients’ relatives contributed and supported in the past 15 programs to the “For poor patients” fund is nearly 3 billion VND.

Dr. Tran Tat Thang - Deputy Director of the Provincial General Hospital said: Every day there are 2,000 inpatients at the hospital. Most of them are poor patients.

Many people suffer from serious illnesses and long treatment periods, so their families are in dire straits. The money donated to the "For Poor Patients" fund has been used effectively by the Hospital's Social Assistance Board to support hundreds of thousands of meals for thousands of poor patients being treated at the hospital, and to support hospital fees and ambulance transport for many patients. For example, recently, from the "For Poor Patients" fund, the Hospital's Social Assistance Board supported a patient with heart disease who had to undergo open heart surgery with an amount of 10 million VND.

The Hospital Board of Directors would like to call on philanthropists and regular donors to pay attention and sponsor the hospital's “For poor patients” fund.

In the recent Conference on summarizing the emulation movement and commendation work of the health sector in the period of 2015 - 2020, the General Hospital of Friendship was commended as a typical unit that has done well in the Charity Movement, repaying gratitude, and supporting the poor. In addition to the program "Singing to the sick", the Hospital has carried out many other meaningful activities such as supporting the beloved Truong Sa with a total amount of 109 million VND and giving gifts to 08 families of martyrs who sacrificed their lives on Gac Ma Island (from Nghe An) with an amount of 80,000,000 VND.
