(Baonghean.vn) - Along the coast of Dien Hai and Dien Kim communes of Dien Chau district (Nghe An) in late April, a series of old, damaged rafts were seen that were not cleaned up, affecting the environment and marine landscape.

Fishermen in Dien Hai and Dien Kim communes of Dien Chau district (Nghe An) have a tradition of catching seafood using rafts. Each raft is made by fishermen from rudimentary materials: bamboo, foam boards... and fishing line. Therefore, rafts can only be used for 4-5 years. Fisherman Nguyen Van Manh in Dien Kim commune said that in the past, people often used materials from damaged rafts to make barns, fuel, etc., but recently people rarely use them anymore, so damaged rafts are thrown away on the shore. Therefore, during the rainy and stormy season, materials from rafts are easily swept out to sea. Photo: XH

Therefore, every year the number of old and damaged rafts is quite large. Photo: XH

Mr. Le The Hieu - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dien Chau district said that the district has directed localities to propagate to fishermen how to handle damaged and dilapidated rafts. Accordingly, for bamboo, people can use it as fuel, for barns, or collect it to burn to clean the coast; for foam boards, people can use it and invest in other new materials to build new rafts; for machinery, it can be repaired for continued use, otherwise it will be handled as scrap metal.
