Nghe An coastal fishermen excited with the first boat racing festival of the year
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of February 6 (the second day of the Lunar New Year), thousands of people from Quynh Long commune, Quynh Luu district and tourists from all over the country flocked to the sea dike of Phu Lien village to participate in the traditional boat racing festival and launch the fishermen's campaign to exploit seafood in 2019.

Before the festival, as usual, the local government and the competing teams held a ceremony to inform their ancestors at the Whale Temple in Dai Bac village, praying for a new year of favorable weather, calm seas, national peace and prosperity, and a bountiful fishing season for the villagers.

The festival has 8 racing teams, representing 8 villages. Each race has 2 teams competing in a knockout format on a 400m water surface.
The traditional boat racing tournament in Quynh Long commune is held once a year to preserve and promote traditional cultural values; through this activity, fishermen express their desire for peace; catch and raise many seafood.

After an exciting competition, Minh Thanh village boat racing team won first prize, second prize went to Dai Bac village.
Quynh Long commune currently has 163 large capacity ships, of which 97 have a capacity of 90 CV or more; thanks to investment in offshore exploitation, Quynh Long fishermen have high incomes. The output of seafood caught in 2018 reached nearly 27 thousand tons of all kinds.
