Nghe An fishermen rent 'ship 67' from other provinces to exploit for high income
(Baonghean) - Fishermen in Quynh Luu district (Nghe An) rented "ship 67" that was stuck on shore from other provinces to change the form of exploitation, which brought high efficiency.
Most recently, in May 2019, captain Nguyen Cong Luu in Tien Thuy commune rented a 4-pole iron-hulled fishing boat with an engine capacity of more than 830 CV from fishermen in Thai Binh province to Lach Quen port for maintenance, modification of some details and equipment, and to go offshore for fishing.
Up to now, after more than 3 months of using iron-hulled ships to exploit the waters of the Gulf of Tonkin, every trip has been effective; the ships return to shore, seafood is transported to the port for sale, after deducting expenses, captain Nguyen Cong Luu earns 20 million VND, and the crew earns over 10 million VND per month.

“Using an iron-hulled ship for fishing, it is modern, spacious, durable and especially safe against big waves and strong winds offshore. After receiving it, we always replace and upgrade the fishing equipment. Like this ship, they used to use only 100 light bulbs, but now we have installed 300 new high-pressure bulbs to meet the requirements, attracting prey at night,” fisherman Tran Cong Luu shared.
In addition to the iron-hulled boat rented by Captain Nguyen Cong Luu, during this time, 4 fishermen from Tien Thuy commune were also using boats built according to Decree 67 rented from other localities for exploitation, including fishermen Ho Van Nghia and Hoang Van Chinh renting iron-hulled boats in Thanh Hoa province; fisherman Nguyen Van Hai renting boats in Ha Tinh and fisherman Ho Van Manh renting iron-hulled boats in Thai Binh province.
Of the 5 iron-hulled boats rented by fishermen Tien Thuy (Quynh Luu), 3 have been operating effectively offshore, while the remaining 2 are being repaired and converted to suit the local 4-sao fishing industry.

According to the fishermen, many of the iron-hulled boats that were previously leased were inefficient and had to stay ashore continuously. However, after the fishermen of Quynh Luu leased them, they learned how to utilize the modern boats' capabilities to exploit them effectively. On average, each boat earned 500-700 million VND per month at sea; after deducting expenses, the fishermen earned 10-20 million VND per month; meanwhile, the owners of these boats had extra money to pay off the bank debt that they had been "burdening" for a long time.
According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quynh Luu district, implementing Decree 67 of the government and Decision 87 of the People's Committee of Nghe An province on building new fishing boats, the district has implemented 52 projects, 40 projects have been signed contracts with banks, including 36 wooden-hulled boats and 4 iron-hulled boats and has disbursed nearly 284 billion VND.
In addition to 40 ships built under Decree 67 of the Government, from 2018 to present, fishermen of Tien Thuy and Quynh Long communes have rented 8 more ships (7 iron hulls, 1 wooden hull) also built under Decree 67 from a number of other localities to convert for exploitation.
The first fisherman in Quynh Luu who boldly rented the ND 67 ship was Mr. Tran Xuan Danh in Quynh Long commune. The iron-hulled ship was rented from fishermen in Dien Chau district and then moved to Lach Quen port (Quynh Thuan commune) to switch to lead seine fishing.
Since the start of fishing, Captain Tran Xuan Danh has earned an average profit of over 200 million VND per year. Later, two more fishermen, Tran Van Thanh and Ho Van Thuong, also rented wooden and iron-hulled boats for fishing; these two boats are currently being converted to a new profession that is suitable for the local fishing experience.

With modern fishing equipment, Quynh Luu fishermen have mastered the fishing grounds, so the output has been constantly increasing. According to data from the district's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, up to this point, the total output of the district has reached 38,000 tons/plan of 60,000 tons; compared to 2018, it increased by 5,000 tons.
The fleet of ships built under Decree 67 of the Government and leased by Quynh Luu fishermen all operate effectively, especially the iron-hulled ships. This shows that Quynh Luu fishermen are very experienced in operating and exploiting seafood.
