Nghe An fishermen 'hit' crabs and mantis shrimps after storm

(Baonghean.vn) - After the first storm of storm No. 10, many fishing boats operating near shore of Quynh Luu fishermen had a big catch of seafood with high economic value.

In addition to 140 offshore fishing vessels, Quynh Long commune (Quynh Luu) also has more than 40 boats fishing near shore. Immediately after the storm passed, fishermen continued to go out to sea to catch seafood with many different means.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh in Phu Lien village, Quynh Long commune (Quynh Luu) said that her family's boat had just returned from fishing so she was urgently carrying the net to the shore to collect seafood. After just one fishing session in the lagoon after the storm, her family collected about 30 kg of seafood, worth 3 million VND.

“Usually after a storm, every boat catches a lot of seafood, mainly crabs and mantis shrimp. Income from trips after a storm is often double or even triple compared to normal days,” said Ms. Minh.

Not only in Quynh Long, many localities in Quynh Luu that fish near shore such as Manh Son village, Tien Thuy commune, Quynh Nghia commune... also harvested valuable seafood after the storm.

Ms. Pham Thi Huong - a trader in Quynh Nghia commune said that for nearly a week now, many fishing boats have not been able to go out to sea to catch fish due to the storm, so there is no seafood to buy. Now many boats have resumed operations, on average each day she buys from 100 - 150 kg of seafood including crabs, fresh squid, mantis shrimp... to sell at the district market.

After the storm, seafood prices only increased slightly, each type increased by 10,000 - 15,000 VND/kg. Currently, crab costs 230,000 VND/kg; mantis shrimp 180,000 VND/kg; flounder 150,000 VND/kg; fresh squid 150,000 VND/kg...

With more than 100 fishing boats operating close to shore, after the storm passed, Quynh Luu fishermen seized the opportunity to go offshore. After just one night of fishing, each boat earned an average of 2-5 million VND.

For offshore fishing vessels, hundreds of fishing boats of fishermen from Tien Thuy, Quynh Long, Quynh Nghia, Son Hai communes... also fully prepared fishing gear and necessities to set sail for seafood fishing.
