Understanding the difficult situation of Mr. Nguyen Van Nho's family in Thanh Vinh 1 hamlet, Nghi Quang commune, who has 2 victims of Agent Orange, but has to live in a dilapidated house, Mr. Nguyen Canh Tu has mobilized organizations and individuals to donate to support the construction of a house for the family. In addition, he regularly visits, encourages and gives gifts to the family of Mr. Cao Van Thanh (70 years old), Tung Son hamlet, Nghi Yen commune, who has 4 victims of two generations infected with Agent Orange, and their life is extremely difficult.
The Nghi Loc District Association of Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims has over 1,227 people affected by Agent Orange, including more than 1,000 victims who cannot take care of themselves. Since 2009, Mr. Tu has mobilized agencies, departments, businesses, schools and individuals to support the repair and construction of 16 new houses, 1,400 gifts, 24 scholarships, 40 capital support packages, and production tools for Agent Orange victims with a total cost of nearly 2 billion VND. In early 2016 alone, over 200 million VND was mobilized. The Association plans to support production capital, education promotion gifts and difficult circumstances in the area.
Mr. Nguyen Canh Tu shared: "For victims of Agent Orange/dioxin, poverty seems to always follow them because they are not healthy enough to work and are often sick; medical expenses become a burden for each family; the support of local authorities and individuals and organizations is very important but still too small compared to their daily life needs and their health conditions" - it is from this concern that the Chairman of the Nghi Loc District Association of Agent Orange Victims has made great efforts to help his members over the past 7 years.
With tireless efforts, veteran Nguyen Canh Tu has received three Certificates of Merit from the Provincial People's Committee and the Fatherland Front Committee of Nghe An province for his outstanding achievements in the work of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin.
