Ky Son residents sadly watched many areas of winter-spring rice crop lost after floods.
Floods not only caused damage to houses and traffic works but also buried many rice and crop areas of people in Ky Son district (Nghe An), causing many households to lose their entire crops.
In the communes of Chieu Luu, Bao Thang, Nam Can, etc., Ky Son district, many areas of rice in the milky stage of full grain were collapsed and buried in soil and sand after the recent heavy rain and flood.

The family of Ms. Vy Thi May in Tat Thoong village, Chieu Luu commune, has nearly 2 sao of rice, and was about to harvest when a big flood swept through and buried 80%. Ms. May sadly said: After many months of care, we thought we would harvest several quintals of rice by the end of October. But the flood came so quickly, the water in the streams and creeks was so strong that there was no way to save the rice. This was the rice crop for the upcoming Tet holiday, but now it is considered a total loss, the family does not know what to do...

Luu Hoa village, Chieu Luu commune also has many rice fields buried and damaged after heavy rain and floods. Standing in front of the rice fields at risk of being completely lost, Mr. Kha Van Tuat - Head of Luu Hoa village said: The whole village has 6 hectares of rice, half of which has fallen, of which about 30% is buried and cannot be restored. Even later, renovating the fields will be difficult and arduous, because of the thick layer of buried soil and rocks.
“This is a mountainous area, the people’s lives are difficult, the land area for rice cultivation is small, so everyone here takes care of the rice plants to ensure food. However, due to the recent floods, many families have lost their entire rice crop,” said Mr. Tuat.

Mr. Lo Van Cang - Chairman of the People's Committee of Chieu Luu Commune, the locality that suffered the most damage during the flood in Ky Son, said: With the characteristics of the mountainous region, the area of rice is small, in recent years, with the direction of the agricultural sector, ethnic minorities in the commune have applied hybrid rice varieties for cultivation, achieving high productivity, hundreds of households not only have enough food all year round but also serve livestock. Therefore, the damage to the seasonal rice during this time will affect the food source for people in the last months of the year, especially during Tet.
For rice fields that can be repaired, the commune has directed the villages to mobilize people to collect trash, clear water channels and sluice gates to save the rice. However, rice that has fallen during the milky stage will be difficult to repair.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Truong - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ky Son district said: Before the flood occurred, the district directed localities to identify production areas at risk of flooding and mobilize forces to clear the flow.
However, the heavy rain on the night of September 30th lasted for a long time, and the floodwaters came quickly, causing many rice fields in the communes of Chieu Luu, Bao Thang, and Nam Can to be buried. Currently, there are no specific statistics on the area of damage because the localities are continuing to update the data in the most accurate way.

According to the forecast, the weather will continue to be rainy in the coming time. With the motto "green house is better than old field" for the harvestable rice area, the district has directed localities to urgently harvest quickly. With the damage to the winter-spring rice, it is inevitable that many households in the district will lack food in the coming time.
In the coming days, the district's agricultural sector will inspect and count the actual damaged rice area and the specific level of damage to have a timely support plan for people to stabilize production in the coming time./.
