Son Hai Commune, a normally bustling and noisy area, suddenly became quiet when news broke that a local fishing boat had an accident at sea, leaving 5 people missing, including 3 people from the same family.

Heard that crew member Thai Ba Tinh (born 1952) is currentlymissing at seaNeighbors and relatives continued to visit and encourage the family to overcome the grief.

In the collapsed tiled house, Mrs. Dau Thi Nhu - wife of sailor Thai Ba Tinh cried, when she woke up she kept calling her husband's name, her son's name, her grandchildren's name. The ship accident at sea caused her husband, son and grandson to go missing and there is still no information. Mr. Tinh is nearly 70 years old this year, although he is old and weak, but because of difficult circumstances, he and his son and grandson participated in fishing to earn extra income. "Grandpa, I thought you would come back and rest this time. You're old and should stay home with me. Why haven't you come back yet? Bring your children and grandchildren here, grandpa!", Mrs. Nhu's cries made the people present at the house unable to contain their emotions.

Next to Mrs. Nhu’s house is the family of sailor Thai Ba Huy (son of Mr. Thai Ba Tinh). The whole house is filled with grief. Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hai – Mr. Huy’s wife was exhausted from not eating or drinking, constantly calling her husband’s and children’s names from morning until now.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong - a relative of the family confided: "The family's situation is extremely difficult. Huy used to go to sea but due to illness, he had to stay home for treatment for a long time. When the wound healed, he borrowed money, bought an old boat to repair and refurbish the machinery to go to work and it has been more than a year now; and Hoa, Huy's son, while waiting for Tet to go to the military, followed his father to sea and had an accident. There is no pain greater than this pain when all 3 of them are currently missing. I hope a miracle will come to them."

Mr. Cao Xuan Diep - Chairman of Son Hai Commune People's Committee said: This morning (December 1), after receiving information about a local fishing boat having an accident in the sea of Quang Tri, among the 6 missing fishermen, 1 fisherman was lucky to survive thanks to a trawler in Quang Ngai who rescued him and is now in stable health. We contacted Mr. Tran Van Huy (born 1974), the surviving crew member, by phone.

Over the phone, Mr. Huy said that while the ship was in the waters of Quang Tri, the shower hose under the engine broke, causing water to flood inside. Although the crew tried to bail out the water and find every way to rescue it, it was too late, and water flooded in and sank the ship. At this time, the crew members hurriedly held onto three buoys; Mr. Huy held onto a buoy alone and floated in the sea for nearly 11 hours. The waves pushed him ashore and he was discovered and rescued by a Quang Tri trawler; the remaining crew members were missing.

The commune government and organizations and unions went to the households with missing sailors to encourage, share and provide timely support, hoping that people can overcome their grief," added Mr. Cao Xuan Diep.
