(Baonghean.vn) - The Ca Moong resettlement area (Luong Minh commune, Tuong Duong district) has been eroded twice and is now facing new risks, threatening the lives and property of the people.
In 2 years (2013, 2014), there were 2 landslides in Ca Moong resettlement area. In particular, the landslide in 2014 affected 20 houses, of which 12 houses were buried up to the floor by rocks and soil. Fortunately, there were no casualties. The cause was determined to be that during the process of building the road connecting the center of Luong Minh commune to the village, the negative slope was washed away by rainwater to the residential area below. |
Immediately after the landslide, the People's Committee of Tuong Duong district allocated about 1.2 billion VND to build two dams to prevent rocks and soil from flowing down the mountain with the water. |
The dam body is covered with B40 steel gabions to prevent landslides and erosion. |
At the same time, the district also spent money to rent machinery to level the soil and rocks, creating a flat surface to stabilize people's lives. |
Families whose houses were buried by rocks and soil were relocated by the district to higher ground and provided with financial support to rebuild their houses. |
However, the risk of further landslides still haunts people as this canal is littered with rocks and soil that can be carried away by the water during heavy rains. |
Although ditches have been created to collect water, according to local people, if it rains heavily, there is still a risk of landslides. |
The large block of rock and soil right above the village is threatening landslides. |
The family of Ms. Moong Thi Hoi, one of the three families that are in the relocation area, has not yet moved despite the district promising to support 20 million VND. According to her, her family is in difficult circumstances so 20 million VND will not be enough to relocate and she hopes to receive more support. |
Mr. Hap Van Phuc, Head of Ca Moong village (far left) said: Currently, there are 2 points in the village with 10 households at high risk of landslides. These households really want to be relocated, but due to difficulties, they still have to live in constant anxiety. |
In Ca Moong village, there are mostly only women, the elderly and children. Men and young people in the village mainly return to the old village (7km away) to work on the fields and raise livestock. Therefore, if there is a landslide at night, it will be more difficult for people to cope. |
