Ban Ve Hydropower Plant focuses on reducing and preventing floods downstream
(Baonghean.vn) - According to forecasts, on the night of October 30 and October 31, Nghe An will continue to have very heavy rain, so Ban Ve Hydropower Plant will limit power generation and use the remaining reservoir capacity of 120 million m3 to reduce flooding downstream.
Due to the impact of storm No. 9, heavy rains lasting from October 29 until now have caused deep flooding in many localities in Nghe An. In many localities such as Tuong Duong, Do Luong, Thanh Chuong, Nam Dan, Vinh city, Quy Hop... many roads and bridges have been flooded, houses have been deeply flooded and isolated.

In some areas of Thanh Chuong, Do Luong, and Hung Nguyen districts, water was over 3 meters deep and many households had to be evacuated to safety; in Vinh city, water locally flooded most of the roads.
Due to prolonged heavy rains, a number of medium and small hydropower plants in the Ca River basin simultaneously released water for regulation. But withBan Ve Hydroelectric Plant, has limited power generation to reduce water flow downstream, contributing to flood reduction, and Ban Ve Lake has cut more than 29 million m3water for downstream. Currently, the lake water level is 197.3m, corresponding to the capacity to prevent and reduce floods for downstream of nearly 120 million m3water. The current water level in the lake is 240m3/S.

According to forecasts ofNorth Central Region Hydrometeorological Station, due to the influence of the weakening low pressure trough from storm No. 9 combined with the strengthening cold air and the disturbance of the East wind in the high altitude, from October 29 to 31 in Nghe An area there will be very heavy rain with total rainfall from 200 - 400mm/period. Particularly in the South of Nghe An over 500mm.

Ban Ve Hydropower Plant, managed by Ban Ve Hydropower Company, is the largest hydropower plant in the North Central region, built on the Nam Non River, Yen Na Commune, Tuong Duong District, with a dam height of 135m, a normal water level of 200m, and a flood prevention capacity of 320 million m3. As a multi-purpose hydropower project, not only producing and supplying electricity, Ban Ve Hydropower Plant also plays a role in controlling, reducing floods, and fighting drought.
