Dien Chauis one of the "hottest" localities in the province in terms of forest fires in recent times. In the period 2016-2020, there were 20 forest fires in Dien Chau district in the communes of Dien An, Dien Phu, Dien Loc, Dien Loi, Dien Yen and Dien Doai. The damaged area was about 404.85 hectares, mainly pine and acacia. In particular, the fire in Dien Loi commune in 2020 lasted for 2 days, damaging more than 350 hectares of pine forest.
Most recently, on the afternoon of May 30, 2021, a forest fire broke out again in Dien Loc commune. Fortunately, the authorities arrived in time to put out the fire, but the fire also burned down more than 2 hectares of pine forest that was in the exploitation age. The risk of forest fires in this locality is still present, especially during the prolonged hot weather.
Present in the communeDien An, Dien Phu (Dien Chau) on the morning of June 3, we noted that many forests in this locality have a very thick layer of undergrowth, due to not being collected for a long time, so the risk of forest fires is very high.

Mr. Phan Xuan Nuoi, hamlet 5, Dien An commune, who has over 20 years of experience as a forest owner in the locality, said: "In the past, life was still difficult, there were no gas stoves or electric stoves like now, so people living near the forest like us often went into the forest to collect pine needles and eucalyptus leaves for cooking, to make fertilizer for plants... However, in the past 5 years, collecting the ground cover has not been done regularly anymore, so the ground cover layer has become thicker." Photo: Quang An |
