(Baonghean.vn) - This is the result after more than half of the journey of implementing programs and plans on gender equality and women's advancement in the period 2021 - 2025.

On the afternoon of October 13, the Provincial People's Committee held a seminar to celebrate the 93rd anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Women's Union (October 20, 1930 - October 20, 2023), the 13th anniversary of Vietnamese Women's Day (October 20, 2010 - October 20, 2023), and mid-term assessment of the implementation of Programs and Plans on gender equality and for the advancement of women in the period 2021 - 2025, with a vision to 2030.

National Strategy ongender equalityIn the period of 2021 - 2030, Nghe An province has set the goal of improving the effectiveness of state management of gender equality in the province. Narrowing the gender gap, creating conditions and opportunities for women and men to participate and enjoy equality in all areas of social life, contributing to the sustainable development of the country, ensuring substantive gender equality between men and women in terms of opportunities, participation and enjoyment in all areas of social life and family, contributing to the sustainable socio-economic development of Nghe An province.

In recent years, with a rate of more than 50% of the population and nearly 50% of the social labor force of the province, Nghe An women have increasingly participated in all aspects of social life. The rate of women holding leadership and management roles at all levels, sectors and localities is increasing. The force of female entrepreneurs and women participating in the fields of employment and economy is increasingly widespread and contributes significantly to promoting the socio-economic development of the province. Women are increasingly interested, supported and facilitated to fully access activities and policies on labor, employment, education, health, information and communication, prevention and response to gender-based violence and domestic violence.

The assessment of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs also shows that in more than half of the implementation of the national strategy on gender equality, 20/24 targets (over 83%) have been achieved and exceeded the set plan.

Notable indicators include the proportion of commune-level local governments with key female leaders; increasing the proportion of female wage earners, reducing the proportion of female workers in the agricultural sector, the proportion of female directors/owners of businesses and cooperatives...

However, in addition to the achieved results, the whole province still has 4/24 (accounting for more than 16%) targets under the National Strategy on Gender Equality that have not been achieved as planned (the proportion of district-level local authorities with key female leaders, the People's Committee or Provincial People's Council with key female leaders; the proportion of female masters; the proportion of female PhDs).

In addition, there are still prejudices, customs, and barriers to improving education, communication, and sharing of housework for women, which affect the achievement of real gender equality.

Concluding the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Bui Dinh Long highly appreciated the results achieved in gender equality work in recent times.

Through the implementation, comrade Bui Dinh Long also pointed out the shortcomings such as: Gender equality and Women's Advancement work of some departments and branches is only limited to propaganda, training and mainly focused on March 8 and October 20; not yet deeply understanding the integration and effective implementation of gender indicators in the work program, or including them in the socio-economic development plan of each field under the responsibility of the department, branch and locality.

The proportion of women participating in management and leadership is not commensurate with the capacity and development of the female force. Some agencies, units and localities have not attached importance to the planning, training, fostering and using of female cadres; the proportion of female cadres planned at all levels is still low; Some professions with a large female population and many fields related to policy making do not have female cadres holding key leadership positions. The proportion of female masters and doctors has not reached the set plan. The situation of women abuse, domestic violence, and trafficking of women and children still occurs in some localities. A part of women still feel inferior, are not confident, and are not bold enough to express themselves...

To continue improving the quality and effectiveness of gender equality work and activities for women's advancement according to the plan set out in the 2021 - 2025 period, Comrade Bui Dinh Long requested that departments, branches, localities, and Committees for Women's Advancement from provincial to grassroots levels need to strengthen the leadership and direction of Party committees on gender equality work, enhance the role and responsibility of Party committees and authorities for gender equality work and women's work, especially the heads of Party committees and authorities at all levels.

Continue to promote the dissemination, education and dissemination of policies and laws on gender equality. Strengthen the effectiveness of state management on gender equality; improve the effectiveness of inter-sectoral coordination in implementing gender equality and women's advancement work. Departments, branches and localities need to proactively integrate and effectively implement gender equality issues, contents, goals and targets in the Programs, Plans and Projects set out by departments, branches and localities in the period of 2021-2025.

In particular, it is necessary to enhance women's capacity to create conditions for women's development through timely measures and policies related to resource creation, planning, training, fostering, and appointment of female cadres; implementing mechanisms and policies to solve employment for female workers, supporting economic development, etc.
