Teachers play 'multiple roles' in schools
With many different roles, homeroom teachers are seen by many students as relatives, as second fathers and mothers, replacing the family in educating and helping them at school.
Encourage student progress
Cao Tran Duy Oanh is one of the students who was scolded by teacher Van Anh just because her test scores were below average.
3 years ago, this male student took the entrance exam to Nguyen Xuan On High School and was 0.4 points short. In a depressed mood, Oanh accepted to study at the Vocational Education and Continuing Education Center of Dien Chau district and neglected his studies for a long time.
Knowing that this was a talented student whose family had a tradition of studiousness, teacher Van Anh always encouraged and motivated Oanh to regain her motivation to study. After more than a year of perseverance, at the beginning of grade 11, Oanh confided to her teacher that she wanted to study at the Armored Officer School and was determined to "start over".

I think it is not about which school you attend, but what you have learned from the school you are attending. Over the years, I have always been grateful because here I have the trust and encouragement of my homeroom teacher and other teachers to help us improve.

After many years of working as a homeroom teacher in a special environment, teacher Van Thi Van Anh - homeroom teacher of class 12A - Vocational Education and Continuing Education Center of Dien Chau district shared that this is a difficult job. However, the more difficult it is, the more persistent and tenacious the teacher must be to accompany the students.
Ms. Van Anh added: "In our class, there are more than 40 students, more than 40 personalities. Due to different circumstances, many students do not receive attention from their families, so they have opposing thoughts, are discouraged, and do not want to try to study. In the process of accompanying students, I have to understand each situation, listen to students and be ready to share with them whenever they encounter difficulties and obstacles. In other environments, the joy is that students achieve high academic achievements, but in our school, students who are good, conscious, and ambitious are already a great gift for teachers."
In other schools, it is normal for students to graduate from grade 12 and go to university. But in my class, it is an effort of both teachers and students, showing a change in the students' awareness, consciousness and determination.

From the 2023-2024 school year, teacher Nguyen Thi Oanh - a teacher at Le Hong Phong High School (Hung Nguyen) was assigned to be the homeroom teacher in a class with many problem students, including those with learning problems and those with moral problems.
From this reality, she spent a lot of time finding out the cause and trying to understand the characteristics of each student to have appropriate educational measures.
Adding to this, teacher Nguyen Thi Oanh said: "Each student has a personality, so in addition to understanding the student, I have to connect with the family, talk, share with parents and unify educational methods between teachers and families to ensure consistent impact, helping students change in a positive direction."
Educating special needs students is a challenging but meaningful task. With the efforts of schools, teachers, families and friends, every student has the opportunity to change, develop and become useful citizens to society.

"I like the job of a homeroom teacher because I get to be close to my students" - that is the sharing of teacher Nguyen Van Thuy - homeroom teacher of class 12 C6, Ky Son High School. Teacher Thuy also said that as an IT teacher, if he only does his professional duties, he will usually "finish teaching and that's it". But if he also takes on the job of homeroom teacher, a teacher can sometimes become an older brother, a father to his students.
"Most of my students are away from their families, living in boarding schools, studying and living at school. Every day, there are many stories about them and the homeroom teacher must spend a lot of time and effort to be able to fulfill his role and responsibility," Mr. Thuy shared more.

Because of his passion for the homeroom teacher job, this year, even though he is over 40 years old, teacher Thuy still boldly registered to participate in the Provincial Excellent Homeroom Teacher Competition. The knowledge and skills he brought to the competition are also the experiences he has accumulated in nearly 20 years of working in this special job.
Notably, in his report on measures, teacher Thuy provided a solution to train students to self-study, in which the main target was the students of class 12C6 that he directly taught.
In his presentation, Mr. Thuy also gave convincing evidence. That is the student Vi Hoang D., whose parents work far away, no one cares for him so he often sleeps in class, walks slowly, is absent from school, skips classes, and smokes. Or the student Ho Y K., who is in grade 12 but is married so she is depressed, has little contact with friends, and often goes home.
After a period of encouragement from the homeroom teacher and help from friends, these students became obedient, serious, and focused on their studies.

A homeroom teacher always has to play many roles, that is the sharing of teacher Lang Thi Cuong - Ha Huy Tap High School (Vinh City), 1 of the 15 most excellent teachers in this year's contest.
She also said that students in each region have their own characteristics. In the city, with many temptations from the environment, from friends, from cyberspace, students have to face many pressures.
With these difficulties, the homeroom teacher must act as a bridge between the family - students and the school, must practice many roles, sometimes as a teacher, sometimes as a friend, a father, a mother, a brother (sister) of the students and sometimes as a consultant, a "judge" or an "investigator", always knowing how to listen, know how to share and understand the students.
That job has never been easy, but we, homeroom teachers, have been doing it every day with all our love and responsibility. After 24 years of teaching, the motivation for me to strive and try in my professional work as well as in my homeroom work is the trust of parents, students and colleagues.
