Foods that help improve your mood

Egg yolks, sweet potatoes, mushrooms, and green vegetables are foods recommended by nutritionists to improve mood.

According to Rachel Kelly and Alice Mackintosh, authors of the book “The Happy Kitchen: Good Food Mood,” what you eat can absolutely have an impact on your emotions and mood.

Mackerel for a good mood

The fish oil in mackerel is great for the brain because it is rich in omega-3 fatty acids. It aids in the production of neurotransmitters, which control everything from emotions, memory, and concentration. These fats also help reduce inflammation. Mackerel also contains less mercury than other oily fish like salmon and tuna.

Eat egg yolks for concentration

Many people often skip egg yolks when eating because they worry that they contain too much fat, but they are a rich source of nutrients for the brain. In particular, egg yolks contain choline, which forms a protective layer on some nerves, helping the brain function better.

It also supports the functioning of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter important in memory formation, concentration and learning.

Sweet potatoes help reduce anxiety

Many people love sweet potatoes, not only because of their great taste but also because they are good for the skin, provide nutrients and effectively reduce stress.

Vitamin B6 in sweet potatoes helps create gamma-amino butyric acid (GABA). This is an amino acid that ensures the maintenance of brain activity, reduces the activity of nerve cells, inhibits the spread of nerve cells, prevents the transmission of stress to the central nervous system, thereby reducing symptoms of anxiety, restlessness, fatigue, insomnia, and stress.

Mushrooms for people with little exposure to sunlight

Many of us feel better when exposed to sunlight. This is because it helps produce vitamin D, a nutrient that is important for supporting mood and boosting immunity.

In addition to sunlight, we can eat mushrooms to supplement vitamin D for the body, especially during the winter months, when there is less sunlight.

Saffron helps increase feelings of happiness

One of the golden rules of mood-enhancing cuisine is to use a variety of herbs and spices. Saffron is a top choice.

Some studies have shown that it can compete with current antidepressants without any side effects.

Sugar-free yogurt for good digestion

The beneficial bacteria in yogurt are key to a healthy digestive system. Some studies have even shown that eating yogurt can help reduce anxiety and boost mood.

Eat tart cherries for a good night's sleep

If you have trouble sleeping, or lack of sleep, you should eat cherries or strawberries. Cherries are rich in carbohydrates, which provide melatonin, a hormone that helps you sleep well. Cherries also have anti-inflammatory effects, are good for the brain, contain many antioxidants and are rich in vitamin A.

Green vegetables for a happy mood

Green vegetables like broccoli, spinach, chard, and kale help boost your mood because they contain folic acid and magnesium. Magnesium helps relax muscles, supports the nervous system, and nourishes the adrenal glands, which helps reduce anxiety.

Folic acid helps balance hormones and produce serotonin and dopamine, two of the many hormones responsible for happiness and euphoria. Green vegetables also contain B vitamins, which are essential for brain function.
