In 2017, the Politburo and the National Assembly made many decisions assigning and approving high-level personnel.

Mr. Tran Quoc Vuong joins the Standing Committee of the Secretariat

At the meeting on July 28, after considering the proposal of the Central Organizing Committee on assigning a Politburo member to participate in the Standing Committee of the Secretariat, the Politburo decided: During the time Mr. Dinh The Huynh, Politburo member, Standing Committee of the Secretariat, is undergoing medical treatment; assign Mr. Tran Quoc Vuong, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Inspection Committee to participate in the Standing Committee of the Secretariat;perform duties as prescribed from August 1.

Mr. Tran Quoc Vuong, 64 years old, from An Ninh commune, Tien Hai district, Thai Binh province; is a member of the Central Executive Committee of the 10th, 11th, and 12th terms; a member of the Politburo of the 12th term; and has held the position ofChief Justice of the Supreme People's Procuracy, Chief of the Central Office of the Party.

Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan is Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.

On the morning of May 10, Mr. Pham Minh Chinh - Head of the Central Organizing Committee, announced the decision of the Politburo, assigning Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan (Member of the Politburo, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee) to hold the position of Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee for the 2015-2020 term, replacing Mr. Dinh La Thang - assigned as Deputy Head of the Central Economic Committee.

Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan, 64 years old, from Tra Vinh, is a Professor of Economics and Doctor of Cybernetics. He is a member of the Party Central Committee of the 10th, 11th, and 12th terms; a National Assembly delegate of the 10th, 12th, 13th, and 14th terms.

In May 2013, at the 7th Conference of the 11th Party Central Committee, Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan was elected to the Politburo. Four months later, he was unanimously elected by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front as chairman to replace Mr. Huynh Dam.

On June 22, the Central Committee Conference of the Vietnam Fatherland Front unanimously elected Mr. Tran Thanh Man (member of the Party Central Committee, Vice Chairman - General Secretary of the Front) as Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front for the 2014-2019 term.

Mr. Truong Quang Nghia is Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee.

On the morning of October 7, the decision of the Politburo to assign Mr. Truong Quang Nghia - Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Transport, as Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee was announced at the Da Nang City Party Committee hall.

Mr. Truong Quang Nghia takes over the position of Mr. Nguyen Xuan Anh - who was previously disciplined by the Party Central Committee to remove him from the position of Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee, member of the Standing Committee, member of the Executive Committee of the Da Nang City Party Committee for the 2015-2020 term, and to remove him from the position of member of the 12th Party Central Committee.

Mr. Truong Quang Nghia, 59 years old, has a master's degree in business administration and is a member of the 11th and 12th Central Committee of the Party.

In March 2015, from the position of Secretary of the Son La Provincial Party Committee, he was transferred by the Politburo to hold the position of Deputy Head of the Central Economic Commission. During the National Assembly session held in April 2016, Mr. Truong Quang Nghia was approved by the National Assembly to hold the position of Minister of Transport.

The government has two new members.

On October 26, the National Assembly voted to approve Mr. Nguyen Van The (Secretary of the Soc Trang Provincial Party Committee) as Minister of Transport to replace Mr. Truong Quang Nghia; and approved Mr. Le Minh Khai (Secretary of the Bac Lieu Provincial Party Committee) as Government Inspector General to replace Mr. Phan Van Sau.

Mr. Phan Van Sau was then assigned to be Secretary of Soc Trang Provincial Party Committee;Mr. Nguyen Quang Duong - Secretary of the Party Committee of Central Agencies, was assigned to hold the position of Secretary of Bac Lieu Provincial Party Committee to replace Mr. Le Minh Khai.

Lang Son Party Secretary becomes Chairman of Oil and Gas Group

On December 24 in Lang Son, Mr. Pham Minh Chinh - Head of the Central Organization Committee, announced the Politburo's decision on the personnel of Secretary of Lang Son Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Board of Members of the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PVN).

Accordingly, Mr. Tran Sy Thanh (Member of the Party Central Committee) will resign from the position of Secretary of Lang Son Provincial Party Committee to become Deputy Head of the Central Economic Commission and assume the position of Chairman of PVN.The person assigned by the Politburo to replace Mr. Thanh as Secretary of the Lang Son Provincial Party Committee is Ms. Lam Phuong Thanh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department.

Thus, after more than 9 months of vacancy when Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khanh - former Chairman of PVN was transferred to the Ministry of Industry and Trade and was prosecuted and detained this December, the "hot seat" at PVN now has an owner.

Mr. Tran Sy Thanh was born in 1971, from Thanh Chuong (Nghe An), and has held positions such as: Deputy General Director of the State Treasury, Secretary of the Bac Giang Provincial Party Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Inspection Committee...

President of Farmers' Association becomes Secretary of Cao Bang Provincial Party Committee

On the morning of December 26, Mr. Lai Xuan Mon - Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Farmers' Union, received the decision of the Politburo on joining the Executive Committee, Standing Committee and holding the position of Secretary of the Cao Bang Provincial Party Committee for the 2015-2020 term.

Also according to the decision of the Politburo, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Anh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of Cao Bang Provincial Party Committee for the 2015-2020 term, ceased participating in the Executive Committee, Standing Committee and ceased holding the position of Secretary of Cao Bang Provincial Party Committee to await assignment of new tasks.

On the afternoon of December 27, the Politburo decided to assign Mr. Thao Xuan Sung, member of the Party Central Committee, to stop holding the position of Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee for Mass Mobilization to take on the task of Secretary of the Party Delegation of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union to replace Mr. Lai Xuan Mon.
