Efforts to protect developmentforest resource values
Pu Huong Nature Reserve (BTTN) was established on January 25, 2002. From 2002 to 2008, Pu Huong Nature Reserve Management Board was a unit under the Nghe An Provincial Forest Protection Department. From 2008 to 2020, Pu Huong Nature Reserve Management Board was a unit under the Nghe An Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. On November 12, 2020, Nghe An Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 4042 QD/UB on merging Quy Hop Protection Forest Management Board into Pu Huong Nature Reserve Management Board.
Over the past 20 years, the Management Board of Pu Huong Nature Reserve has performed well many key tasks, including forest management and protection. The Management Board has organized 1,690 legal dissemination sessions, held 70 buffer zone conferences on forest management and protection. It has built 75 boundary markers, 9 signposts, and 15 propaganda boards.

Through patrolling, checking forests and receiving reports from the people, Pu Huong Forest Protection Department has detected and handled 858 violations of illegal exploitation, transportation of forest products and deforestation for farming, confiscating more than 2,570 m3wood of various types, more than 23 tons of charcoal, 6 individuals and 86 kg of wild animals and many tools and machines. Administrative fines and sale of confiscated forest products paid to the State budget more than 9.8 billion VND, criminal prosecution of 3 cases including 5 subjects. In recent years, Pu Huong Nature Reserve has also done a good job in forest fire prevention and control, in the past 20 years there have been no forest fires in the Reserve.
The Management Board of Pu Huong Nature Reserve has also implemented and cooperated with other units and organizations such as the Forestry Resources and Environment Center (FREC) - Forest Planning and Investigation Institute (FIPI), Faculty of Biology - Vinh University, Vietnam Institute of Medicinal Materials, Institute of Forest Ecology and Environment (IFEE)... domestic and international organizations and scientists to carry out scientific research programs, collect specimens of flora and fauna for research purposes. At the same time, coordinate and implement project programs aimed at socio-economic development for local people, aiming to contribute to sustainable hunger eradication and poverty reduction associated with the goal of forest management and protection.

Over the past 20 years, the Management Board of Pu Huong Nature Reserve has organized the allocation of 114,227 hectares of forest to people in the buffer zone, with a total budget of more than 29.74 billion VND to support people assigned to protect forests and implemented the policy of supporting production forest planting according to Decision 147/2007/QD-TTg for 2,329 hectares, with a total budget of 5.34 billion VND.
With such tireless efforts, the collective of cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers at Pu Huong Nature Reserve Management Board were honored to receive many Certificates of Merit and Certificates of Merit from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Forestry Department, the Vietnam General Confederation of Civil Servants, the People's Committee of Nghe An province, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghe An, the Nghe An Forestry Sub-Department, the Quy Hop District Party Committee, and the Quy Hop District Youth Union.
Continue to promote valuesfrom the forest
Sharing about the tasks in the coming time, the leaders of Pu Huong Nature Reserve Management Board said that they will continue to strengthen the staff in both quality and quantity, build effective forest management stations, promote patrolling, inspection, forest protection management at the root, protect intact 40,223.55 ha of special-use forest, 6,080.9 ha of protective forest, and develop well 207,813 ha of assigned production forest. Promote the application of science and technology in monitoring forest developments, patrolling, inspecting, and protecting forests.
Call for and mobilize investment capital to implement forest protection management, implement protection contracts for forests bordering buffer zones and non-critical forests. Regularly provide training and professional development; train, retrain, plan appropriately, rejuvenate the team, and increase local staff. Promote scientific research and gradually exploit tourism services in the assigned forest areas.

Regarding scientific research and international cooperation, arrange and use a team of scientific staff to exploit and use modern equipment proficiently, apply it to practical work. Promote the implementation of approved programs and projects; Strengthen international cooperation activities; Coordinate with research institutes and universities to implement applied research programs to preserve and develop ecosystems, develop genetic resources of valuable flora and fauna species to combat species degradation, and medicinal value.
Speed up the progress of approval and implementation of Environmental Education projects and other programs and projects; improve the quality and effectiveness of programs and projects. Cooperate in investment, exploit capital from investment projects of domestic and foreign organizations and individuals to support funding for implementing environmental education programs and activities, gradually develop ecotourism. Build and develop Pu Huong Nature Reserve to truly deserve to be one of the important core areas of the Western Nghe An World Biosphere Reserve.
The Management Board of Pu Huong Nature Reserve today is more spacious and impressive. Among the civil servants, public employees, officers and forest rangers who have been with us since its establishment, there are now those who have grown up and hold important positions in the forestry sector as well as other sectors in our province. We always remember and are grateful to the previous generations who have contributed to building and consolidating the development of Pu Huong Nature Reserve to what it is today.

Pu Huong is located on the administrative boundaries of 12 communes in 5 districts: Que Phong, Quy Hop, Quy Chau, Con Cuong and Tuong Duong. Of which, Nga My and Xieng My communes occupy the largest area with over 15,000 hectares. We made a journey into the core area of Pu Huong to experience what we saw and heard.
