The regret of a shaman who stabbed his son to death with a sword because of the 'demon of alcohol'
(Baonghean.vn) - At the age of 61, Mr. Vi Dinh Hoa (living in Con Cuong) could only endure drinking two glasses of wine a day. When he was awake, he became a shaman, lost in the incense smoke. After the offering, he buried himself in the "ghost" of alcohol, not knowing where it was. Perhaps, until now, he still can't believe it, he went to exorcise people's spirits but in the end, he was so blinded by the "ghost of alcohol" that he even killed his own son.
The trial on May 15 was more special than a normal trial, because both the defendant and the representative of the victim’s family and the person with related obligations who were summoned were all relatives of the same family. Everyone cried, but each cried because of their own pain: one was a wife who lost her husband, another was a son who lost his father, another was shocked because her husband was about to go to jail and her son who she had carried and given birth to had passed away forever…
As for the defendant Vi Dinh Hoa, seeing his relatives in court, he could only lower his head and cry. This would not have happened if he had not drunk alcohol that day...
It was a day in early December 2018, when all the Thai ethnic people in Ke Me village, Mau Duc commune, Con Cuong district had returned to gather around the warm kitchen with their families, they heard a commotion coming from Mr. Vi Dinh Hoa's family. The sound of people crying, screaming, and calling for help tore through the night of the Con Cuong mountains and forests, making the cold seem much more frightening.
According to Mr. Hoa's bitter testimony before the court: Tonight, his eldest son, Vi Dinh Tuyet, and his wife, Vi Thi Le, came to visit his parents. At the same time, they wanted to ask Tuyet's younger brother to come and look after the house for a few days so they could take their son to the doctor.

While Ms. Le went into the house to talk, Mr. Tuyet saw his mother, Ms. Lang Thi Nhung, crying in the corner of the garden. Mr. Tuyet asked his mother: "What happened?" but Ms. Nhung said nothing and just cried.
With a hunch and also knowing his family well, Mr. Tuyet angrily went up to the porch and said: “You two, don’t drink so much anymore. Being parents, you and I have suffered enough.”
At that time, Mr. Vi Dinh Hoa - Tuyet's father was sitting in the house eating dinner. After the afternoon drinking session, the "shaman" did not remember that he had just punched his wife because she did not follow his instructions. Therefore, his son's words only made him more offended, he angrily chased his son away: "I do my job at home, I beat my wife".
Ms. Le, knowing her father-in-law's personality, advised her husband to go home to avoid arguing. Mr. Tuyet, although resentful, still went home with his wife.
When the son had just turned his back and walked 20 meters, Mr. Hoa threw the bowl he was eating at his wife, thinking that it was because of her that he was being scolded by his eldest son, but missed. Hearing the sound of the bowl breaking, Mr. Tuyet turned back, asked his father why he threw the bowl, then angrily picked up his helmet and threw it down the steps.
Faced with his son's attitude, Mr. Hoa shouted: "Are you going to kill me?". Mr. Tuyet said he just went back to talk to his father to make things clear. Ms. Tuyet picked up the helmet, gave it to her husband and still advised him to let it go. But Mr. Tuyet threw it again, causing the helmet to shatter. Mr. Hoa used all his remaining strength to stand up, grabbed his son by the collar, ran to the bed, took a sword hanging at the head of the bed and stabbed Mr. Tuyet.

When the incident first happened, Mr. Hoa repeatedly tried to commit suicide, so the authorities forced him to wear a helmet while writing his report. Photo: Document |
He was taken to the emergency room but due to the stab wound that punctured his heart and lungs, Tuyet died on the street in the arms of his mother and wife.
When asked by the panel of judges about the compensation fee, the victim's family, who is also the defendant's family, shared the same opinion: not demanding compensation and asking for a reduced sentence for the defendant. Throughout the trial, Mrs. Nhung, the defendant's wife and the one who gave birth to the victim, could only cry. Only at the end, when Mr. Hoa was about to hear his sentence, did she look up at her husband with sorrowful eyes. As for the shaman Vi Dinh Hoa, when he heard the court sentence him to 15 years in prison for murder, he could only bow his head in deep remorse.
Just because of a small conflict and alcohol, he caused great pain to his whole family, and had to live in torment for the rest of his life...
