Nghe An mountainous farmers convert ineffective land to grow Tet flowers

Currently, many households in the mountainous district of Anh Son have boldly converted some ineffective land areas to experiment with growing Tet flowers. Initial results show that the flowers have adapted to the soil and climate in the mountainous district of Anh Son.

This year, Ms. Pham Thi Hai in village 9, Cao Son commune borrowed land from the commune to grow flowers for Tet with 1,000 lily bulbs, 7,000 yellow chrysanthemums and 300 gladiolus plants on an area of ​​2 sao. Ms. Hai shared that, realizing that during the Lunar New Year, people's demand for fresh flowers was very high in the area, she and her friend invested in growing Tet flowers, choosing lilies because they are beautiful and last a long time.

According to Ms. Hai, the process of growing and caring for flowers is more laborious than growing other plants because it does not only depend on weather factors, growers must regulate so that the flowers bloom during Tet.

To have flowers harvested in bulk for Tet, Ms. Hai has to take care of them regularly, fertilize, spray pesticides, trim the tops... every day very carefully. Especially, after the flowers are planted, the electricity must be turned on until harvest. The electric light will make the temperature warm enough, stimulating the plants to grow well...After more than 1 month of planting, the survival rate reached 95%, the plants also grew very quickly.

In Anh Son, there is also a model of growing flowers in a greenhouse of Mr. Dang Van Thien in Kim Tien village, Phuc Son commune.Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, who is taking care of flowers in the greenhouse, said: Flowers are planted in 3 batches. Starting from the 10th lunar month, we planted 3,000 tall lily bulbs. We have just planted 1,500 dwarf lily bulbs and will soon plant 2,000 tulip bulbs. In order for flowers to bloom in time for Tet, in addition to planting at the right time and technique, the weather plays a very important role.Planting lilies for the first time requires careful care, especially monitoring for pests and diseases.

Because the flowers are grown in greenhouses, the care is also much easier. The weather is quite favorable now, the flowers are growing very well.

In recent years, realizing that growing flowers brings high profits, many households in Cam Son, Dinh Son, Hoi Son, Khai Son, and Tao Son communes, Anh Son district, have taken advantage of ineffective land with many other crops to grow flowers for Tet.

According to calculations by flower growers, each sao of land people grow flowers for an income of about 10 million VND, 2-3 times higher than other crops. This year, the flower growing area has increased nearly 2 times compared to last year, the whole district is about 3 hectares.

Households are also more confident in growing commercial flowers with a wide variety of flower varieties; at the same time, they know how to apply scientific and technological advances to higher-quality flowers to supply the Tet market.
