Nghe An farmers light fires to warm their dairy cows
(Baonghean.vn)- On cold days, people in the mountainous area of Quynh Luu (Nghe An) have to cover and warm their dairy cows.
During these cold days of 15-17 degrees Celsius, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung in Quynh Thang commune is actively protecting and warming his family's nearly 20 dairy cows. Dairy cows are very sensitive to the weather, especially when the monsoon season comes, if the warmth is not ensured, the cows can easily catch a cold and get sick.

"Since the cold air has come, I have bought more than 100 meters of plastic tarps to stretch around the barn. Because this is a mountainous area, the temperature is lower than in the lowlands. In addition to covering, every evening the family has to light 2-3 fires to keep the cows warm," said Mr. Hung.
Currently, in Quynh Luu district, there are more than 520 dairy cows, concentrated in mountainous communes such as Quynh Thang, Quynh Chau, and Quynh Tam.

According to farmers, dairy cows are highly profitable animals, so disease prevention is always a top priority, especially in cold weather like now. Each dairy cow, if well cared for and fed a full diet, can earn about 300,000 VND per day. In cold weather, when temperatures drop, if warmth is not ensured, the amount of milk produced will decrease significantly.
Mr. Le Van Nga - Chairman of the People's Committee of Quynh Thang commune said that during this time, the locality has directed livestock farmers to promptly cover and protect their livestock; not to let them graze in the fields and to reserve food sources. When livestock show signs of cold, they need to go to the nearest veterinary facility to buy timely preventive medicine.
