Mr. Ho Huu Tho's family in Quynh Bang commune raised 3 ponds this year, the shrimp release schedule started on March 1. Like every year, his family applied shrimp farming techniques according to the instructions of the Department of Agriculture and the District Veterinary Station, so the shrimp area developed well. After nearly 3 months of focused care, on May 19, his family started the shrimp harvest. With a pond area of 4,000 m2, he hired 4 workers to pull nets to catch shrimp and then sell them to traders; it is estimated that after harvesting, on average, 1 pond (about 4,000 m2) yielded nearly 4 tons of shrimp, reaching a weight of 60 shrimp/kg.
"For this shrimp crop, farmers have to take great care and proactively prevent diseases so that the shrimp can grow well. Although the weather is unfavorable this year, the family's 3 shrimp ponds are still growing normally. On average, 1 pond earns a profit of more than 250 million VND" - Mr. Tho shared.

In 2018, Quynh Bang commune had 80 hectares of shrimp in the first crop, starting from May 10 until now, people have harvested about 20 hectares. According to shrimp farmers, this year's productivity is equivalent to last year, with an average of 5-7 tons per hectare. The current purchase price depends on the weight of shrimp; 60 shrimp/kg costs 150,000 VND/kg, 40 shrimp costs 180-200,000 VND/kg. With this purchase price, some large-scale farmers will earn billions this season.
"In order to have a successful shrimp season, in addition to depending on the weather, pond owners have invested hundreds of millions of dong to upgrade the infrastructure of the ponds to be more modern. All ponds are covered with black tarpaulins, with separate settling ponds, which limits diseases in shrimp. Shrimp raised for more than 40 days or more, people already have profits, no worries about losses" - Mr. Ho Thai Hung, who has 7 shrimp ponds, expected to harvest more than 28 tons, earning more than 2 billion dong in Quynh Bang commune, excitedly said.
Along with Quynh Bang commune, many other localities such as Quynh Thanh, Quynh Luong, An Hoa... are also in the shrimp harvest season. According to data from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quynh Luu district, as of May 20, the total harvested shrimp area is nearly 30 hectares. On average, households with shrimp harvested this season earn a profit of 150 - 300 million VND.
It is expected that around the end of May and beginning of June, people will harvest at the same time.
