What are the benefits of the New Rural Development program?
(Baonghean.vn) - For several days now, many mountainous villages and hamlets have been holding celebrations to commemorate their recognition as achieving new rural standards. The sounds of gongs, drums, and furrowing fill the entire area with joyful sounds.
Welcoming the new rural areas should, of course, be a joyful occasion!
Here's just a small example: In the past, in mountainous villages, every household would build sheds for raising buffalo, cows, pigs, and chickens right under their stilt houses. All the dirty waste and foul odors would fill the family's living space. Diseases and illnesses also stemmed from this. Officials from the commune, district, and province spent many years campaigning and persuading people to separate the livestock from under the stilt houses, building separate enclosures to protect human health and provide better care for the animals. Looking back, people realize how "backward" they were in the past.

In implementing the New Rural Development program, the villagers encouraged each other to build septic toilets, and together they contributed labor and resources to constructing internal village roads, cultural centers, and playgrounds for children. The roads and paths within the village became clean and tidy. Thanks to the New Rural Development program, students no longer fear crossing rickety monkey bridges to go to school; and the transportation of agricultural products became easier and more convenient for the people.
Furthermore, to improve the quality of life for the people, with the support of agricultural officials, the villagers have become familiar with commercial production activities. From vegetables and rice to goats and pigs, they receive technical guidance to achieve better and higher yields while also ensuring environmental friendliness. As a result, when sold, they fetch higher prices, increasing the income for each family.
The New Rural Development program also provides people with better conditions to preserve traditional cultural and spiritual values. People have space to express their cultural and artistic talents, and places to perform traditional folk songs and dances of their community and ethnic group. Their spiritual lives are therefore improved.
But most importantly, the new rural development program helps people in mountainous areas change their ingrained habits, establish a new way of life that is in line with development trends, but without distorting the core traditional cultural values of their ancestors.
