Female student achieves high score in high school graduation exam thanks to mind mapping method.
Thanks to her method of outlining main ideas and keywords to build appropriate mind maps for each subject, Dang Thi Yen Nhi – a 12th-grade student from Quynh Luu I High School – achieved very high scores in the recent high school graduation exam.
In the 2024 National High School Graduation Examination, Dang Thi Yen Nhi excelled, ranking among the top 20 candidates with the highest scores in the social science subject combination in Nghe An province, with a total score of 56.15 (Mathematics 9.2, Literature 9.5, English 9.2, History 9, Geography 9.25, and Civic Education 10 points).
To achieve her dream graduation exam results, Yen Nhi went through a journey of hard work and dedication. Nhi shared: “Most of my knowledge mainly depends on textbooks and lectures from teachers in regular classes, because that is the basic foundation for developing and improving knowledge, and solving difficult exam questions effectively. Besides class time, at home I also regularly read many materials, books, newspapers and participate in online courses.”
I also formed a group with my friends, choosing each person to excel in a particular subject so we could actively discuss and supplement each other's knowledge gaps.

In all subjects, Yen Nhi uses mind maps, employing a visual and creative approach through images, colors, and pictures. She typically outlines main ideas and keywords, then connects and links them together, easily creating new thought processes, accessing a comprehensive overview of knowledge, and analyzing and solving problems logically. This helps her remember lessons longer and more effectively, absorbing knowledge efficiently.
Of the three subjects in the D01 group that Nhi is pursuing, Math is her strongest subject and also the one that brings her mixed feelings of both enjoyment and fear. She enjoys it because Math stimulates critical thinking, creativity, and quick wit. She fears it because Math is difficult, has a wide variety of exercises and topics, and it's hard to get high scores.
That fear stemmed from the final mock exam to prepare for the official high school graduation exam. At that time, due to poor performance, her scores were not as high as she had hoped, leading to pressure. But with motivation from her subject teachers and encouragement from her parents, she gradually stabilized her mindset. When she solved the more difficult problems, Nhi felt much more energized.
English is also one of Yen Nhi's strengths. What fascinates her about this subject is the writing, reading, and listening skills because the topics in this section are very diverse and relevant to real life, especially gaining a better understanding of political issues, news, and everyday life.
Therefore, not only will students learn new vocabulary, gain additional skills, and hone their logical thinking and critical reasoning abilities, but they will also gain interesting and useful knowledge to support them in their studies of Literature, History, Geography, and Civic Education.
Regarding Literature, Yen Nhi doesn't choose rote memorization but focuses on grasping the knowledge, understanding the core issues, and retaining the information. According to her, forming ideas is extremely important when studying Literature. Besides mastering the basic knowledge, creative ideas always add depth and uniqueness to each essay. Therefore, mind mapping is an effective learning method that helps her consistently achieve scores above 9 points.
With her scores in the D01 subject group, Yen Nhi applied for admission to the International Business major at the Foreign Trade University. "This is a very dynamic environment, and I want to challenge myself, overcome my shyness and timidity, and change for the better," Yen Nhi shared.
Yen Nhi is an exemplary and intelligent student, possessing exceptional thinking, concentration, and self-learning abilities. She demonstrates great effort, high determination, and a constant drive for self-improvement. She is an all-around excellent student with a warm and sociable personality; actively participating in sports, cultural, and artistic activities at her class and school, earning the love and respect of her teachers and classmates.
