(Baonghean.vn) - On November 6, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of Nguyen Van Quan (born 1978), residing in Quynh Di ward, Hoang Mai town (Nghe An), for the crime of "Murder".

According to the indictment, at around 0:30 on June 18, Nguyen Van Quan had the idea of going to the house of Ms. Tran Thi Que (living in the same neighborhood) to steal property.

Breaking into the house, seeing Mrs. Que sleeping soundly, Quan used the back of a knife to hit the victim on the head until she passed out in order to steal her property.

Being beaten, Mrs. Que woke up, shouted and raised her hands to defend herself, but Quan slashed her repeatedly on the head, face, and hands. Quan only stopped and ran away when he discovered that two of Mrs. Que's neighbors were running to rescue the victim.

Ms. Que was taken to the emergency room in a state of multiple injuries with 23 cuts on her body, 64% health damage causing a disability in her hand, and complete loss of ability to work.

On June 23, Nguyen Van Quan turned himself in to Hoang Mai Town Police and confessed his crime.

The investigation agency determined that Nguyen Van Quan's actions showed signs of the crime of "Robbery". However, Quan had not yet committed the act of appropriating Ms. Que's property. Apart from Quan's confession, the investigation agency had no other documentary evidence proving that the defendant's criminal act was aimed at appropriating Ms. Que's property. Therefore, there was no basis to prosecute Quan for the crime of "Robbery".

For the crime of "Murder", Nguyen Van Quan was sentenced by the People's Court to 16 years in prison and forced to compensate the victim more than 100 million VND.
