Raising wild ducks under Xao Va waterfall

(Baonghean) -At the foot of Xao Va waterfall is the duck farm of Mr. Tran Van Son's family, next to Nam Viec river is Mr. Thai Van Dieu's flock of thousands of ducks.

More than a year ago (April 2015), Que Phong district brought 1,000 ducklings, weighing 0.3 kg/duck, to the farm of Mr. Tran Van Son (Chairman of Son Phuong Agricultural - Forestry - Fishery - Trade Services Cooperative) in village 1, Tien Phong commune. After 3.5 months, the ducks had grown, weighing more than 1.2 kg/duck. The loss rate was about 7%.

The flock of wild ducks has gotten used to the climate and is growing well, mainly concentrated in Tien Phong commune.

Then, in early August 2015, Nghe An Provincial Youth Union donated 500 breeding mallard ducks to 5 youth union households in this commune to take advantage of the water and food resources of Hua Na River to develop a high-value commercial duck flock. Because they are raised naturally, the meat is delicious and lean. Currently, mallard ducks are sold on the market for 210,000 - 220,000 VND/kg.

The food source for the ducks is water hyacinth and small fish, shrimp, and prawns bought from Hua Na dam.

Every day, Mr. Tran Van Son's flock of 4,000 ducks can eat dozens of kilograms of rice and corn.

Previously, in November 2013, Mr. Thai Van Dieu in Dan village, Tien Phong commune, Mr. Dieu, when not satisfied with his experience of over 30 years of raising ducks, bought 1,000 ducklings from Mr. To Quang Dan (in Doan Tung village, Dong Phu commune, Luc Ngan district, Bac Giang) for 50,000 VND/bird. Currently, Mr. Dieu has thousands of commercial ducks, which are regularly ordered by customers.

Mr. Tran Van Son's duck farm has over 4,000 ducks.

Wild duck is processed into many dishes: boiled, fried with lemongrass, steamed, stir-fried with bamboo shoots...

Now, at the foot of Xao Va waterfall is the duck farm of Mr. Tran Van Son's family, next to Nam Viec river is the flock of ducks of Mr. Thai Van Dieu with thousands of birds along with the households of young people and people along Hua Na lake.
