Father cannot explain why his son bought gasoline to burn down the house after U23 Vietnam's victory
(Baonghean.vn) - Up to now, Mr. Pham Van Thu still does not understand why his son could act like that. In just a moment, the fire engulfed and burned down all of the family's property.
Trying to pick up the remaining things, Mr. Pham Van Thu (born in 1952, residing in hamlet 6, Van Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district) was still shocked by the incident.
According to Mr. Thu, on the evening of January 20, he and his eldest son Pham Van Su (born in 1978) still ate and drank normally and nothing happened. “During the meal, I drank a few glasses of wine with my son, but there was a misunderstanding between the two of them and they argued loudly. But that is normal, I don’t think that is why my son burned down the house,” said Mr. Thu.

After the meal, Mr. Thu and his wife went to their neighbor's house to watch football. At about 9 p.m. that same day, he suddenly heard people shouting that the house was on fire. When he went to check, he discovered that the house was his.
“At that time, the match between U23 Vietnam and U23 Iraq had just ended. I didn’t understand what was going on, so I and my wife ran home. When we got home, the entire kitchen was on fire and had started to spread to the main house…”, Mr. Thu said.
In response to the public uproar that the cause of the house fire was anger after losing a bet, Mr. Thu said he knew nothing about it. This miserable father added that his son was not a normal person like other people, often did strange things and had a very erratic personality.
Regarding the incident, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Long, Chairman of the People's Committee of Van Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh District confirmed that Mr. Pham Van Thu's house was burned down by his son.
“I only heard rumors and reports about Mr. Su losing a football bet this morning. As for whether Mr. Su burned down his house because he lost a football bet or not, we have to wait for the conclusion of the Yen Thanh District Police,” said Mr. Long.
The fire completely destroyed the three-room house, two motorbikes and many other household items. The suspect, Pham Van Su, was taken to the police station that night to assist in the investigation.
Currently, the cause of the incident is being investigated and clarified by Yen Thanh District Police.
