Mr. Daniel Kritenbrink becomes the new US Ambassador to Vietnam
Mr. Daniel Kritenbrink will replace his predecessor Ted Osius - who, after completing his term, will continue to stay in Vietnam to work in the education sector.

On October 26 (local time), the US Senate approved Mr. Daniel Kritenbrink, a professional diplomat with extensive experience in Asia, to become the new US ambassador to Vietnam, according to the World-Herald Bureau.
Thus, Mr. Daniel Kritenbrink will replace his predecessor Ted Osius, who said he will continue to stay in Vietnam to work in the education field after the end of his term as ambassador.
"I have known Mr. Kritenbrink, who will be appointed as the next US ambassador to Vietnam, for a long time. I can think of no better diplomat than Mr. Kritenbrink to continue the positive momentum for the current relationship between the United States and Vietnam," Mr. Osius wrote about his successor on Facebook.
According to a statement from the US Embassy in Hanoi, Mr. Kritenbrink is a senior career official of the foreign service, rank of Minister Counselor, and has been a US diplomat since 1994.
He is currently a senior advisor for North Korea policy at the US State Department. He has two decades of experience working abroad and in Washington on Asian issues as a policymaker, analyst, and practitioner.
During his diplomatic career, Mr. Kritenbrink has served in Tokyo, Sapporo (Japan), Kuwait and Beijing (China). Mr. Kritenbrink is fluent in Chinese and Japanese and served as deputy chief of mission in Beijing.
He has held senior leadership positions at the US State Department and was appointed by former President Obama as Asia director of the US National Security Council.
He also served as acting deputy assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs.
Mr. Kritenbrink holds a master's degree from the University of Virginia and a bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska-Kearney.
