Mr. Medvedev analyzed what could lead to war between Russia and NATO.
Any attempt to invade Crimea would be considered a declaration of war against Russia, and if a country that is in the process of joining NATO did this, it would mean a conflict with the entire North Atlantic Alliance, which would in fact be a third world war.

"It will really be a third world war," Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said in an interview with Russia's Fact and Fact newspaper.In December 2014, the Ukrainian parliament amended two laws to abandon the country’s non-bloc status. In February 2019, the Ukrainian parliament passed constitutional amendments that set the path for joining the EU and the North Atlantic Alliance. Ukraine became the sixth country to be granted partner status with the military bloc, with enhanced opportunities.
For Russia, Ukraine is more dangerous in NATO than Finland and Sweden
"The answer is obvious. Ukraine in NATO is in order of magnitude more dangerous for our country. This is related to what President Vladimir Putin has said more than once. For us, Crimea is part of Russia. This is permanent," Medvedev said in response to a question about which possibility is more dangerous for Russia - Ukraine in NATO or Finland and Sweden.
