After the US withdrawal from Syria, Israel will continue to operate in the Arab republic to counter Iran's military presence and, if necessary, will expand its operations, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.

Israel admits that in the past two years alone it has attacked Syria at least 200 times and claims that, thanks to this campaign, Iranian forces have been reduced by almost a quarter.

"The decision to withdraw 2,000 US troops from Syria will not change our consistent policy. We will continue to act against Iran's attempts to establish itself there militarily and, if necessary, we will even expand our operations," Netanyahu said during a Cabinet meeting on Sunday (November 23).

Addressing those who are "concerned" about national security, the Israeli prime minister added that Israel's cooperation with the US in the security field remains "in full force".
