Hai Phong City Police have just arrested four subjects for illegally trading value-added tax (VAT) invoices with the amount of money written on the invoices being up to more than 1,000 billion VND.

According to the investigation agency, Ngo Thi Mai (49 years old, permanent residence in Long Son urban area, Quan Toan ward, Hong Bang district, Hai Phong city) is the leader of this organization. From 2009 to now, Ngo Thi Mai and her husband Hoang Van Tuan have established 7 companies, and hired many subjects to act as "ghost" directors to illegally buy and sell VAT invoices.

Specifically, Mai used the headquarters of ASEAN Asphalt Import-Export Joint Stock Company (address No. 166, Hanoi Street, Group 5, Quan Toan Ward, Hong Bang District, Hai Phong City) with Hoang Van Tuan as Director to organize the purchase and sale of VAT invoices.

On December 12, 2016, the police searched Mai and his wife's private home in Ha Nhuan village, An Hoa commune, An Duong district, Hai Phong city, along with several other establishments, seizing 8 computers, 1 laptop, 4 sets of stamps, 61 VAT invoice books, 800 million VND, and many invoices and documents of the 7 "ghost" companies mentioned above.

From 2009 to present, these subjects have bought and sold more than 2,000 value-added invoices, worth more than 1,000 billion VND to make illegal profits./.
