Breaking up a drug trafficking ring from abroad to Vietnam

On November 29, the Investigation Police Agency of Tan Phu District (HCMC) prosecuted and temporarily detained a group of 6 suspects including: Nguyen Thanh Cuong (26 years old, from An Giang), Bui Thuy Vy (30 years old), Le Thanh Tam (31 years old), Nguyen Dinh Truc Phuong (39 years old, all residing in Tan Phu District) and Pham Van Hoc (35 years old, residing in Thu Duc City) for the crimes of "Illegal possession of narcotics" and "Illegal trading of narcotics".

In addition, the police also urgently arrested Nguyen Quoc Viet (35 years old, from Nghe An, lover of Bui Thuy Vy) for the act of "Illegal possession of military weapons".

According to initial information, through professional measures, in early October 2023, Tan Phu District Police discovered a large-scale drug trafficking ring. The Ho Chi Minh City Police Department has directed Tan Phu District Police to establish a special project to combat it.

Through investigation, it was determined that this line was led by Nguyen Thanh Cuong.

In mid-October 2023, the task force's detectives ambushed and arrested Bui Thuy Vy, Pham Van Hoc, and Nguyen Dinh Truc Phuong for possessing and trading drugs. The police investigated and arrested a number of other related subjects.

The police agency clarified that in 2021, Nguyen Thanh Cuong met a person named T. (unknown background). In September 2023, T. contacted Cuong and asked him to transport drugs from Cambodia for domestic consumption and pay him 5 million VND/kg.

Cuong bought a truck to serve his business. The drugs shipped from Cambodia were hidden by Cuong at his house in Duc Hoa district, Long An province, and then he used technology delivery applications to deliver the drugs to customers when instructed by T.

Other subjects such as Vy, Phuong, and Tam bought drugs from Cuong to resell for profit.

Searching the suspects' residence, police seized 35kg of various drugs and other related evidence.

In addition, when searching Bui Thuy Vy's residence, police discovered that her lover, Nguyen Quoc Viet, was in possession of a K54 gun and 8 bullets.
