(Baonghean.vn) - Recently, Vinh International Hospital discovered a case of a patient infected with large liver flukes.

On March 19, 2019, Ms. PTĐ (55 years old, Anh Son district) came to Hoan My Vinh International Hospital for examination in a state of fatigue, bloating, headache and severe pain in the chest and lower back.

Before that, Mrs. D. thought she had a cold so she bought medicine to treat herself but the pain did not subside.

With clinical signs, doctors examined and performed further diagnostic tests such as: stool test, chest X-ray, unprepared abdominal X-ray, abdominal ultrasound...

The results showed that the patient had liver flukes living in his body for many years.

Doctor. CKI Tran Thi Bich Lan directly examined and treated the patient and said: "Flukes often adhere to the bile duct to get food, so over time the liver will become fibrotic and degenerate with fatty degeneration with symptoms such as anemia, jaundice, and in the late stage, "ascites".

During development, the worm will release toxins that cause allergies (rash or rash all over the body) and signs of digestive diseases: loss of appetite, indigestion, pain in the liver area, diarrhea or constipation...

The agents that cause liver fluke disease are usually from herbivores, or can also be transmitted through some freshwater snails (Lymnaea snails). People are infected by eating some types of aquatic vegetables (coriander, celery, etc.) or drinking water contaminated with worm larvae. The larvae enter the stomach and intestines, mature into liver flukes, parasitize in the liver for many years, lay eggs, and are excreted in the feces, then hatch into ciliated larvae, then develop into a type of snail in the Lymnaea family, then into tailed larvae and into cysts. Cysts attach to aquatic vegetables and swim in the water, and people who eat and drink them will get liver fluke disease.

In addition, the doctor also gave advice on preventive measures such as: Do not eat undercooked food; do not eat raw vegetables growing in water; do not drink raw water; use clean water.

In particular, when there are symptoms of allergies, rashes, loss of appetite, indigestion, pain in the liver area, digestive disorders... patients should go to the doctor and get timely treatment to avoid unfortunate incidents./.
