On the morning of June 12, Ky Son district held the 3rd Congress of Ethnic Minorities in 2019.

Life is gradually improving
In recent years, the economic and social life of Ky Son border district has begun to improve, the average economic growth rate in the 5 years (2014-2019) reached 6.87%; the average income per capita in 2018 reached 21 million VND/person/year.The poverty rate has decreased gradually over the years. In 2015, this rate was 65.57% and by 2018, it had decreased to 50.9%.

The economic structure has shifted towards reducing the proportion of agriculture, forestry and fishery, increasing the proportion of industry, construction and trade and services, initially forming production areas associated with product consumption. Traditional craft villages continue to be maintained and developed, and brocade weaving products of the Thai ethnic group are exported to other countries.
Commercial infrastructure continues to be built, the system of traditional markets and business establishments promptly serves production and living needs, essential consumer goods are widely distributed to remote communes.

Up to now, the whole district has 8,317/16,031 households recognized as Cultural Families (reaching 51.88%) and 105/193 villages recognized as Cultural Villages (reaching 54.4%). The work of preserving and promoting ethnic cultural identity has made significant progress, traditional costumes, languages, folk songs, folk music, and traditional folk dances of ethnic groups are still preserved.
Attention has been paid to education and training, improving the quality of human resources in ethnic minority areas, and the network of schools at all levels has been well maintained. Attention has been paid to health care for the people, the epidemic situation has been controlled, and national health programs have been fully and promptly implemented.

Attention has been paid to the development of ethnic minority cadres from planning, training, fostering to deployment, especially female cadres and young, capable cadres. In the period of 2019 - 2024, Ky Son district aims to reasonably and effectively exploit the potential and strengths of agriculture and forestry; continue to build the infrastructure system, meeting the requirements of economic development, people's livelihood and ensuring national defense and security. Gradually narrow the gap in the level of development and living standards of people in the region compared to the average level of the province; preserve and promote the cultural identity of ethnic groups, improve the material and spiritual life of the people...

On this occasion, the congress elected 35 official delegates and 2 alternate delegates to attend the 3rd Congress of Ethnic Minorities of Nghe An Province. At the same time, 13 individuals were awarded the Medal for the Development of Ethnic Groups by the Central Committee for Ethnic Minorities; 2 groups and 15 individuals were awarded Certificates of Merit by the Provincial Ethnic Minorities Committee and 10 groups and 25 individuals were awarded Certificates of Merit by the District People's Committee for their outstanding achievements in implementing ethnic policies.
