Parents should consider carefully when changing their wishes for grade 10.
From 7am this morning, June 7, candidates taking the 10th grade entrance exam can change their application. The change will last for 5 days to give candidates more time to consider and choose.
Many changes
On the morning of June 7, one day after completing the 10th grade entrance exam, at Hung Loc Secondary School - Vinh city, some parents came to ask to change their children's wishes.
Ms. Nguyen Thi T - has a child in grade 9C and this student registered NV1 at Le Viet Thuat High School (Vinh City). After finishing 3 exams, this student scored 21 points and the family decided to transfer him to Nghi Loc 3 High School to increase his chances of being admitted. According to the family's explanation, this score is nearly 1.5 points lower than the school's standard score last year. Not to mention that the student may have made mistakes while taking the test. Therefore, changing his wishes will increase his chances of being admitted to a public school.

This year, Hung Loc Secondary School has 183 9th graders registered for the 10th grade entrance exam. Of these, 30 students registered for Huynh Thuc Khang High School, 11 students registered for Ha Huy Tap High School, and 76 students registered for Le Viet Thuat High School. The remaining 57 students registered for Nghi Loc 3 High School; 8 students registered for schools in districts and the provincial boarding high school for ethnic minorities. After the exam, this number fluctuated quite a bit and increased the number of candidates transferring to schools outside the city.
To facilitate the transfer of parents' wishes, we have established an admissions consulting team and are present at the school to advise and guide parents.
On the first morning, I saw quite a few parents worried about transferring their children from schools in the city to schools in the suburbs. Before the family made a decision, we asked parents to consider carefully, check their children's work and compare it with the general level. The purpose was to ensure the children's rights but also not to let them lose the opportunity to study at quality schools.

Whether or not to change their wishes is a question that many families are asking at this time when candidates have completed the 10th grade entrance exam. Many families have even held meetings to discuss suitable options.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Le, whose child is taking the exam to Huynh Thuc Khang High School (Vinh City). After finishing the exam, her child predicted that she would get 24 points in 3 subjects. This score is nearly 1 point lower than last year's benchmark and not lower than this year's average. However, because the safety level is 50:50, the family is still considering: "I find this year's exam difficult, with a high level of differentiation, so I hope the benchmark will be lower. However, this also depends on the number of candidates going to and from the schools and the family is still waiting before making a final decision" - Ms. Le shared.

Beware of "noise" information
According to the instructions for the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2024-2025 school year, after completing the 10th grade entrance exam, candidates have 5 days to change their wishes.
Specifically, after the exam is over and the results are not yet available, students can change their first choice (NV1), second choice (NV2), third choice (NV3). In addition, candidates who register for ethnic boarding high schools can change their choice to the provincial ethnic boarding high school or the ethnic boarding high school No. 2. The time to change the choice is from 7:00 a.m. on June 7, 2024 to 5:00 p.m. on June 11, 2024. After this time, the system will not allow any change of choice.

Changing your preferences to increase your chances of admission, you can adjust to a top school with a higher admission score (if you do well on the test) or move to a lower-ranked school (if your test scores are not up to par). To change your preferences accurately, the most important basis is your test scores.
Since yesterday, after candidates completed the exam, secondary schools across the province have announced how to change their preferences and detailed instructions. Many schools have also established admissions consulting teams or assigned teachers to come directly to the school to support candidates and parents in the process of changing preferences. During the implementation process, many high schools have also proactively provided information about the school for students to choose from. At Kim Lien High School (Nam Dan), the school has compiled benchmark scores, quotas, and the number of candidates who have registered for the exam in the past 5 years so that parents have more necessary information.

In addition to official information from schools, after students have finished their exams, a lot of inaccurate information is being shared online, causing confusion for parents and students. On the Nghe An student forum, a summary table of expected benchmark scores is receiving many comments. However, this is not accurate information because the exam marking has not yet begun.
Similarly, a message from a teacher is also being shared quite a lot when this teacher has calculated the expected number of Math scores in the whole Vinh city (from 8 - 9 points or above 9 points). This message also says that the English score can be graded from a scale of 0.1 - 0.3 points/1 question for parents to consider. This is completely incorrect because the multiple choice test is graded by machine with a prescribed scale of 0.2 points/1 question.
The entrance exam for grade 10 is used for all students in the province. The admission to grade 10 will also be taken in order from top to bottom until the quota is filled. Therefore, parents do not need to pay too much attention to the benchmark scores of previous years but need to base on the general level of candidates taking the exam this year. Before making changes, it is necessary to calculate carefully to increase the chance of admission and not lose the rights and opportunities of candidates.
Mr. Dao Cong Loi - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, Deputy Head of the Steering Committee for the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2024 - 2025 school year
According to the plan, from June 9, the Department of Education and Training will start grading the exams. With the number of exams increasing by over 7,000, this year, Nghe An is expected to mobilize the largest number of teachers to grade the exams ever, with nearly 600 officials and teachers doing the grading work. The grading is expected to be completed within 1 week and by mid-June, the Department of Education and Training will announce the exam scores./.
