Many meaningful things to do on Independence Day

This year's National Day, September 2, during the complicated Covid-19 pandemic, there were no tourism or entertainment activities like previous years, but families all gathered at home - "wherever you are, stay there".

As for women in many localities in the province, instead of taking holidays and gathering with their families, they are still busy with many loving and sharing tasks.

At the Trang Tho hamlet association, Xuan Tuong commune (Thanh Chuong), more than 20 women went to the fields early in the morning to harvest rice for Mrs. Nguyen Thi Bay's family. Mrs. Bay is nearly 70 years old this year, her husband, Mr. Nguyen Phung Lan, had an accident and has been hospitalized for more than 2 months; 3 children, one living far away, the other taking care of him. The 3 sao of rice was ripe in the field but there was no labor to do it. Mrs. Bay's situation was understood by the women in the hamlet and they volunteered to harvest, pull back and thresh the rice to help the family.

In Thanh Chuong district, in Thanh Thinh commune, 20 women joined forces with veterans and farmers to build a field quarantine area consisting of 3 compartments and 6 rooms to replace the centralized quarantine area at the school.

Ms. Tran Thi Thuy - Head of Phong Thinh Association, one of the association officials actively participating in Covid-19 prevention and control activities in the locality in recent times, confided: "The current difficulties are common difficulties and when everyone contributes, all tasks and difficulties can be solved. Especially, participating in activities on Independence Day, for each sister, this year's Independence Day is even more meaningful."

According to Ms. Ha Thi Xuan - President of the Women's Union of Thanh Thinh commune, in recent times, in addition to establishing a mobile propaganda team to prevent and fight the Covid-19 epidemic, the commune's women's unions have also organized many activities in this fight, such as mobilizing people and women members to contribute necessities and organize meals for people in centralized quarantine; support harvest season for people in quarantine...

Also today, in Tan Hai and Hoc Van hamlets, Quynh Bang commune (Quynh Luu district), 24 women also actively harvested the green onions for families in the hamlet.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai - President of the Women's Union of Quynh Bang commune said: Supporting and helping members harvest vegetables, tubers and fruits is a traditional activity of local women. Due to the nature of growing vegetables, tubers and fruits, currently, mainly by live labor, from planting to harvesting, while the young people mainly go to work far away, so each household mainly has only 2 middle-aged workers or over 60 years old.

And now, applying epidemic prevention and control measures according to Directive 16 in the commune makes it even more difficult to harvest, transport and consume, so along with harvesting, the commune Women's Union also takes responsibility for transporting and connecting agricultural products for farmers through various channels.

Not only in Quynh Bang commune, according to Ms. Tran Thi Ha - President of the Women's Union of Quynh Luu district, although it is a holiday, women in many localities still continue to maintain many jobs to support the anti-epidemic force as in the past few days. In addition to Quynh Bang, women in Quynh Tam and Quynh Dien communes also participate in harvesting and connecting to consume products for people.

Many localities such as Quynh Giang, Quynh Hau, Quynh Bang communes, Cau Giat town... maintain the "warm rice - trust" activity with thousands of meals that women call for support and organize to cook. Some localities such as Quynh Thach, Quynh Giang, Quynh Tho, Quynh Hong... organize gift giving to member families in difficult circumstances and households affected by the Covid-19 epidemic.
