The West may consider asking Ukraine to negotiate with Russia

Jamie Dettmer, an analyst for Politico, said the West could force Ukraine to sign a peace deal, given President Volodymyr's repeated requests for weapons aid.

“Mr Zelensky does not understand public opinion in Western and Southern Europe, where business owners and entrepreneurs are worried about how to survive with the cost of living getting worse,” said analyst Jamie Dettmer.

In Mr Dettmer's view, the discrepancy between the words and actions of European politicians is "gnawing" at Ukrainian officials, and fueling fears that the West will eventually try to force Kiev into peace talks.

Sharing this view, Ilke Toigur and Max Bermann – analysts of the Foreign Policy column, said that the rhetoric of European leaders about Ukraine's EU membership is contrary to their actions.

“Accepting a country of Ukraine’s size, low-income population, and financial needs for reconstruction would require major reforms in institutions, policies, and accession procedures within the EU itself. This would, in turn, create major conflicts of interest among member associations regarding the allocation of EU funds,” analysts said, adding that if European politicians were really serious about Ukraine, they would have already taken steps to reform the bloc.

Finally, American analyst Jamie Dettmer commented that Ukraine's counterattack has been slow to progress, Ukraine fears that the West will lose patience, and eventually come to the decision that: Victory for Kiev is impossible.

Russia has repeatedly stressed that Moscow is ready to negotiate, but Kiev has always rejected the offer.
