(Baonghean.vn) - To increase product value and provide green vegetables that ensure food safety and hygiene, Nghi Lien (Vinh City) is expanding the VietGAP vegetable model and completing procedures to affix traceability stamps in 2018.

With more than 200 hectares of land for growing crops, farmers in Nghi Lien commune (Vinh city) have a tradition of vegetable production for many years. To increase the production value per unit area, in the past 2 years, Nghi Lien has built vegetable production models according to VietGAP standards, linking farmers, authorities, scientists and businesses to create a chain of production and consumption of products.

The VietGAP standard vegetable production model was implemented in hamlets 2 and 3. In the first year, it was only a trial run on an area of ​​1 hectare with 10 farmers participating. Farmers were instructed to strictly apply technical processes, from land preparation, seed selection, fertilization, pest management on crops, harvesting...; at the same time, the products were consumed at the BiBiGreen chain of stores in Vinh City.

Up to now, the model has been expanded to 10 hectares with 54 participating households, including 2 production groups. The vegetable products produced are very diverse in types, and the harvest is also according to the plan of the product consumption unit to avoid both surplus and shortage.

Nghi Lien Commune has established the Hong Phong Green Agricultural Cooperative, whose vegetable products are consumed at 7 BiBiGreen stores and several schools in Vinh City. In addition, Nghi Lien has also built an asparagus production model with an area of ​​1 hectare invested in drip irrigation infrastructure; although it is only the first harvest, the asparagus is suitable for the local soil conditions.

"In the near future, we will continue to expand the VietGAP vegetable model in hamlets 9, 11, and 12; in addition to traditional vegetables, the commune will introduce more high-value commercial crops into production. The commune also has a support mechanism for groups of households producing vegetables according to VietGAP standards; striving for Nghi Lien vegetable products to have VietGAP certificates and barcodes for traceability in 2018; At the same time, we will organize community tourism in the production area", said Mr. Hoang Van Tuan - Vice Chairman of Nghi Lien Commune People's Committee.

It is known that the project to develop suburban agriculture by 2020 of Vinh city has been approved by the Vinh city People's Committee. Accordingly, the safe vegetable production area has a total area of ​​370 hectares, currently 273 hectares have been deployed in Nghi Lien, Nghi Kim and Hung Dong communes./.
