5 students drowned while fishing together

One of the five children slipped and fell, getting caught in the fishing line, so the other children jumped in to save them. Because they entered the whirlpool, they were exhausted one by one, leading to the heartbreaking incident above.

The incident happened at around 10am this morning on the Ca Lo River flowing through Luong Phuc village, Viet Long commune, Soc Son district, Hanoi.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Huu Duc - Deputy Head of Soc Son District Police, who was present at the scene, said that after receiving the report from the local authorities, the police quickly arrived, organized with the people to retrieve the bodies of the 5 unfortunate students, performed an autopsy and handed them over to their families for burial according to local customs.

Soc Son District Police said that, initially, the incident was determined to be that on the morning of October 15, 5 male primary and secondary school students in Viet Long commune invited each other to go fishing on the Ca Lo River, through the territory of Viet Long commune.

Due to the rising river water, one of the five children slipped and fell into the river, getting caught in the fishing line, so the other children jumped in to save them. Due to the strong current, the children were exhausted one by one, leading to the heartbreaking incident above.

Unfortunately, this is a deserted area so it wasn't until noon today that someone passing by discovered the incident.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Qua - Head of Viet Long Commune Police said the identities of the 5 victims are: Nguyen Van Them (born 2008), Nguyen Trung Thuc (born 2006), Nguyen Thien Nhan (born 2012, Thuc's younger brother), Nguyen Van Sung (born 2004), Nguyen Minh Hop (born 2004). When discovering Nguyen Van Them's body, people saw a fishing line stuck to his leg.

By about 5:00 p.m. the same day, all five bodies of the unfortunate students had been recovered.
