'Hunting' for talent to build smart cities
To build a smart city, we must develop high technology and attract high-quality human resources.
We must "hunt" for talented Vietnamese people who are working in large corporations abroad, Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong said at a meeting with editors-in-chief of central and local newspapers and radio stations on the afternoon of November 6.

The meeting was chaired by Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong to introduce to newspapers and radio stations the MEMS Forum (Micro-Electromechanical Forum established to prepare for mass production of sensors, supplying for smart city projects) and to request newspapers and radio stations to share and promote the forum effectively.
"For any policy to develop a city or effectively propagate to the people, newspapers and radio play a very important and indispensable role in the process of building a city, especially building a smart city," said Mr. Phong.

According to Mr. Phong, smart cities must invest in high-tech development. To do so, electronic sensor chips must be produced to implement smart city projects. Cities that want to develop sustainably must rely on high value-added industries, electronic chips are the spearhead for this goal.
Mr. Phong said that other countries have entered the 4.0 industry, we are entering and must take advantage of countries with experience, take advantage of and attract experts and talents from home and abroad. Developing high technology science, in addition to determination, requires high-quality human resources. So where is that source?
“The city has had many policies to attract talented people, even hunting for talented people for smart urban projects. Where are those talented people? As far as I know, in Silicon Valley, Google or large corporations, there are many Vietnamese people working very successfully, they prove the position of Vietnamese intelligence. Attracting talented people means attracting this human resource, in addition, we must invite leading domestic and foreign experts to cooperate with the city in developing high technology science and building smart cities,” said Mr. Phong.
Speaking at the meeting, many journalists said that microchips or MEMS are too specialized, so experts and professors must simplify the language and content so that the press can propagate easily and effectively.
The Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park (SHTP) was authorized by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to have the authority and finance to establish the Ho Chi Minh City MEMS/Sensor Forum. The forum aims to commercialize the city's research on micro-electromechanical products. At the same time, it attracts investors to set up factories to produce sensors and micro-electromechanical products, in order to prepare hardware for the construction of a smart city, avoiding dependence on foreign products.

The Forum's organizers said the project's ambition is to contribute to the implementation of a comprehensive plan to transform Ho Chi Minh City from one of the leading manufacturers and assemblers of components to a major competitor in the global digital economy.
“This is where relevant stakeholders, including managers, businesses, researchers and the media, come together to discuss research and production of MEMS (micro-electromechanical products) to serve the domestic and international markets, creating a foundation for the 4.0 revolution and moving towards a smart city,” said Mr. Le Hoai Quoc, Head of the Management Board of Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park.
According to Mr. Quoc, SHTP and a few schools and institutes have conducted research on micro-electromechanical products but do not have enough conditions for commercialization and large-scale production. This is the foundation for creating an ecosystem for manufacturing sensors, micro-electromechanical devices, and microchips.
