(Baonghean.vn) - Unemployed, Viet agreed to transport 1 kg of drugs from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi to receive 10 million VND in wages. When arriving in Nghe An, Viet was arrested by the police and sentenced to life in prison.
Yesterday (July 25), Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a trial for defendant Nguyen Van Viet (born 1995), residing in Cam Nhuong commune, Cam Xuyen district (Ha Tinh) for the crime ofIllegal drug trafficking.
The indictment shows that Viet and his wife do business and live in the South. Through the introduction of a friend from the same hometown, Viet agreed to transport 1 kg of drugs from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi for a man named Tai (unknown background and address) for a fee of 10 million VND.

After receiving 3 million in advance, Viet took the “goods” on a bus to the north. On the way, Tai stopped by home to visit his son for a short time.
Urged by Tai to quickly bring the "goods" to Hanoi, Viet took a taxi to get there. However, on the night of February 15, 2023, when Nguyen Van Viet went to Vinh City (Nghe An), he was discovered by the police and caught red-handed with the evidence.
Before this legal trouble, Viet was sentenced to 30 months in prison for “illegal arrest” and “property destruction”. In addition, Viet was sent to a compulsory drug rehabilitation facility for 12 months.
At the trial, the defendant admitted his crime. Viet said he agreed to transport the drugs because he was blinded by the 10 million VND payment and was unemployed at the time. He asked the court to consider reducing his sentence so he could return home soon to take care of his children.
At the end of the trial, the panel sentenced Nguyen Van Viet to life in prison for "Illegal transportation of drugs".
