Mr. Hiep (69 years old) opened this boarding house in 2008 both for business and to help families with sick children. "With the price of 15,000 VND, I make very little profit. Not only that, many people think I am a scammer, so I have to print newspapers about this boarding house to convince customers," he shared.

Mr. Hiep’s three-story boarding house has 40 rooms, accommodating more than 100 people, and is almost always full of guests. He said that many other boarding house owners were jealous, spoke ill of him, and ripped off his flyers.

In 40 rooms, there are 3 large rooms with a total capacity of about 80 people at a price of 15,000 VND/person/day and night.

Not only that, these rooms are equipped with cool air conditioning. He said that the air conditioning was sponsored by a "generous donor". He also spent his own money to buy a generator so that when there is a power outage, he can still use the fan and light normally.

Private rooms cost from 60,000 to 80,000 VND/day. The higher the floor, the cheaper the price. Mr. Ha's family (Tan Son, Phu Tho) has rented this boarding house for a month at 60,000 VND/day. All the furniture in the house such as TV, fan, thermos, bowls and chopsticks are lent by the landlord.

The 15,000 VND/night room on the top floor is also equipped with a mist fan to combat the heat.

He also reduced the price for kidney dialysis or cancer patients to 10,000 VND. Those who lacked money for hospital fees were given interest-free loans.

With such a low price, guests enjoy many amenities such as a place to watch TV and free Wi-Fi.

"Then someone told me to come here. When I saw the dormitory, I was so happy because it was cheap and I could live like I did in the army. The living conditions were comfortable, so although I was sad because my grandchild was sick, it was a bit better," she confided.

Although he is the owner of a 40-room boarding house, Mr. Hiep's room is very small and on the top floor. When asked why, he smiled and said: "It's small enough to give space to others. If people rent somewhere else, it would cost them a lot more money."
