Harmful effects of lack of sleep and too much sleep
Long-term sleep deprivation not only makes us tired and irritable, but also causes physical changes in the brain, a variety of chronic diseases and mental problems.

The study found a link between sleep deprivation and inflammation, one of the side effects of sleep deprivation. Based on a review of 72 scientific reports, which involved more than 50,000 participants from various studies, the scientists concluded that sleeping too little or too much leads to increased levels of inflammation.
Sleeping too much and too little is linked to inflammation — a process that contributes to depression as well as many other medical conditions, Dr. John Krystal, editor of the journal Biological Psychiatry, said in a press release.
Sleep disturbances (such as waking up multiple times during the night) or having insomnia are examples of poor sleep. Sleeping less than, or more than, 7-8 hours per night has been shown to increase levels of inflammatory markers in the blood that are linked to chronic diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes. Poor sleep quality is a risk factor for inflammation, along with a high-fat diet and sedentary lifestyle.
“Along with diet and physical activity, sleep health represents a third component in promoting health,” said study author Michael Irwin.
Scientists recommend that to protect yourself from sleep deprivation, you should maintain a regular sleep schedule and get 7-8 hours of sleep each night.
