(Baonghean.vn) - On February 12, at Xa Doai Cathedral, Nghi Loc District, Nghe An Province, the inauguration ceremony of Bishop Alphonso Nguyen Huu Long as Bishop of Vinh Diocese took place.

Archbishop Zalewski - Apostolic Nuncio in Singapore, and Non-Resident Representative of the Holy See in Vietnam; 32 Bishops; 460 priests from Nghe An and Ha Tinh dioceses, and more than 10,000 Catholics inside and outside the diocese attended the mass.

At the ceremony, Archbishop Zalewski, the representative of the Holy See, presented the decision to appoint Bishop Alphonso Nguyen Huu Long as the main Bishop of the Diocese. After completing the Holy See rituals, the new Bishop of Vinh Diocese expressed his thanks to the superior priests, religious, religious congregations at home and abroad, the dioceses and the entire community of parishioners.

The new bishop also sent his thanks to the authorities at all levels from the Central to Nghe An province, Nghi Loc district, Nghi Dien commune. The new bishop affirmed: “In the role of religious leader, I hope that we will meet, discuss and resolve peacefully in case of difficulties; thereby avoiding tension, breakdown, loss of feelings; creating understanding, respect, friendliness, solidarity so that Catholics can feel secure in contributing to building the homeland to be more and more prosperous, life to be more and more prosperous, for a fair, democratic and civilized society”.

Previously, on December 22, 2018, the Vatican decided to separate Vinh Diocese, establish Ha Tinh Diocese, and at the same time, appoint Bishop Nguyen Thai Hop (former Bishop of Vinh Diocese) as the first Bishop of Ha Tinh Diocese and appoint Bishop Nguyen Huu Long as the main Bishop of Vinh Diocese.
