(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of March 20, Nghe An Provincial People's Committee held a conference to review the work of forest protection and development in 2014 and deploy tasks for 2015. In 2014, the targets of the forest protection and development plan were basically completed, the forest planting reached and exceeded the plan of 15,000 hectares, increasing the forest coverage in the whole province to an expected 54.6%. The total export value of wood and non-wood forest products was 129.71 million USD, accounting for 61.7% of the total export value in the province (wood chip export 105 million USD, wood export 17.2 million USD, pine resin 7.51 million USD).

The work of preventing illegal logging and inspecting and controlling forest products has been carried out effectively, the number of violations of forestry laws has decreased, illegal logging hotspots have been detected early, and drastic and decisive handling has been directed, preventing the formation of hotspots of logging. The coordination of forest protection among forest rangers, police, military, border guards, forest owners, and local authorities has had many positive changes, creating a combined strength to prevent violations of regulations on forest protection and management of forest products.

However, in 2014, there were 30 forest fires, an increase of 11 cases compared to 2013. Forest fires causing great damage to forests still occurred in Nam Dan, Hung Nguyen, Nghi Loc, Do Luong and Thanh Chuong districts, but the underlying causes have not been completely resolved, especially the investigation and tracing of the perpetrators of the forest fires. The exploitation of young forests still occurs in some localities, leading to low efficiency from forest planting. The implementation of the 4 on-site motto in forest fire prevention in some commune-level localities is not good.

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Viet Duong acknowledged and highly appreciated the results achieved in the work of forest protection and development in the past time, and emphasized that in 2015, the weather forecast is complicated, with widespread hot and dry weather, greatly affecting the work of forest development, therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the direction to ensure the forestry targets. The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the sectors and localities to strengthen forest patrol measures, investigate, reconnaissance and promptly stop acts of encroachment on the forest, and effectively protect the forest at the root. Focus on directing strongly at Pu Mat National Park, Pu Huong Nature Reserve, Pu Hoat, and the management boards of Ky Son, Tuong Duong, Thanh Chuong, and Quy Chau protective forests. Effectively implement the policy of payment for environmental services so that people actively participate in forest protection. To implement the project "General forest survey and inventory in Nghe An province in the period of 2015-2016", it is necessary to speed up the progress of inventory and assessment, remove difficulties and obstacles for grassroots units to complete the project with quality and on schedule...
