Strengthening control of H5N6 avian influenza in Quynh Luu
(Baonghean.vn) - In order to control the H5N6 bird flu from spreading widely, on the morning of September 1, the Quynh Luu District Veterinary Station coordinated with the Quynh Yen Commune Veterinary Board to vaccinate about 6,000 poultry within the area where the disease could spread and break out.
On the morning of August 28, Quynh Yen commune (Quynh Luu) received news500 geese and chickens of Mr. Bui Huy Tinh's family in hamlet 11 had white and green stools, had convulsions and then gradually died.

After checking, the Commune Veterinary Department requested the family not to sell the ducks or destroy them themselves, and reported to the Veterinary Department of Region 3 to collect samples for testing. At the same time, two more poultry farmers in Hamlet 11, Mr. Ho Nam Xuyen and Mr. Ho Trong Sanh, also reported that their ducks were showing the above symptoms, after which the authorities continued to collect samples for testing.
By the evening of August 29, test results showed that the poultry flocks of the three households were positive for H5N6.

On the morning of August 30, Quynh Yen commune collected all poultry from the above 3 households with a total herd of 693 birds to destroy them according to regulations.
Through screening in hamlets 11 and 12, Quynh Yen commune, the total poultry flock at risk of spreading is about 6,000; therefore, Quynh Luu District Veterinary Station quickly provided 6,000 doses of vaccine to organize vaccination.
Ms. Ho Thi Vinh in Hamlet 11 said, after the commune announced the epidemic, we quickly implemented preventive measures. Currently, the farm has more than 2,300 ducks and geese in preparation for sale for meat, if we are subjective, the disease will spread without us knowing.
“Currently, the commune veterinarian is coming to the farm to vaccinate the poultry. In addition, we also comply with the hygiene of the barn and sprinkle lime powder around the pond to prevent the spread of disease,” said Ms. Vinh.

Ms. Hoang Thi Tho - Veterinary Department of Quynh Yen Commune said that the whole commune has about 58,000 poultry, however, about 6,000 are in the epidemic area and need to be vaccinated promptly. From yesterday to the morning of September 1, the Veterinary Department of the commune has injected 5,000 doses of vaccine, and is expected to finish today.
After the H5N6 bird flu outbreak in Quynh Yen commune, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quynh Luu district sent a written report to the district leaders to have a response plan.

On August 31, communes near the epidemic area such as Quynh Doi, Quynh Hau, Quynh Minh, An Hoa organized the sprinkling of lime powder on main roads; at the same time, assigned commune police to guard the roads to handle cases of buying and selling poultry at the epidemic area. Localities also organized propaganda on commune loudspeakers so that people are informed and have plans to respond to the epidemic.
