Increase income through restructuring crop and livestock production.
(Baonghean.vn) - In recent times, the Party Committee of Quynh Hong commune (Quynh Luu district) has focused on leading the people in shifting the production structure towards diversifying crops and livestock and effectively applying scientific and technological advancements. As a result, the local agricultural production sector has developed strongly, bringing high income to the people.
Ms. Dau Thi Van, residing in Hamlet 1, Quynh Hong Commune, owned 3 sao (approximately 0.3 hectares) of rice land in the remote Chia Pheo area. Despite the hard work involved in cultivating it, her income was meager. After land consolidation in 2010, she boldly took on an additional 1.7 hectares of barren land from the commune and invested hundreds of millions of dong to improve the land and build a farm. Through years of hard work and diligence, she now owns a farm with 40 hybrid sows, supplying over 100 piglets and tens of tons of fish to the market annually. In addition, she utilizes the water surface to raise 200 laying ducks. Currently, after deducting expenses, she earns a profit of 220 million dong per year.

Meanwhile, Mr. Tran Duc Song, residing in Hamlet 4, Quynh Hong Commune, after his family's land was consolidated in Con Cu, invested over 1 billion VND in renting machinery and hiring labor to dig fish ponds and build floating pig pens using foreign technology on an area of 5,500 m2. Thanks to the successful application of modern livestock farming techniques, his pig herd has grown rapidly, currently maintaining 42 sows, lean meat pigs, and boars in his pens. In addition, he also dug fish ponds right on his farm, generating significant income. Currently, he earns over 500 million VND in total income each year.
In Quynh Hong commune, out of 272 hectares of agricultural land, 160 hectares are in low-lying, difficult-to-cultivate areas where rice cultivation is ineffective. Following the successful implementation of land consolidation and exchange, the commune Party Committee issued a Resolution on restructuring crop and livestock production to suit the specific conditions and soil types of each field. Thanks to effective dissemination of policies and guidelines to every household, the entire commune has successfully converted 35 hectares of low-yield rice fields into 52 farms and livestock breeding facilities, combined with aquaculture, generating incomes ranging from 100 to 400 million VND.

For areas of high-lying land where irrigation water is not readily available, the commune has planned to switch to growing vegetables using drip irrigation technology. In particular, the Hong Phu flower village annually introduces new, high-economic-value flower varieties such as tulips and lilies into production.

Recognizing the growing market demand for rice, Quynh Hong has focused on cultivating high-yield, high-quality commercial rice varieties such as Bac Thom 67, AC 5, Huong Thom, Thuy Huong, etc., and applying improved rice cultivation methods according to the SRI system. By introducing mechanization into production, the average rice yield per sao (approximately 350 kg) reaches 3.5 quintals, and the fragrant, delicious rice is favored by the market and purchased directly from the fields by traders.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Quynh Hong commune, said: “To promote the development of production and livestock farming, at the end of each season or at the end of the year, the commune's Party Committee organizes a conference to evaluate the results of production, livestock farming, and crop cultivation to learn from experience and propose measures to overcome existing shortcomings and limitations for the following year. Based on that, appropriate guidance is provided to suit the actual conditions, thereby aiming to increase the value of crops per unit area.”
