(Baonghean.vn) - Currently, Vinh City is focusing on directing Nghi Duc commune and neighboring localities at high risk to synchronously implement solutions to prevent H5N1 epidemic, provide vaccination coverage, and prevent widespread spread.

After receiving the information, a working group from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine and Vinh City were present at Nghi Duc commune to direct the epidemic prevention work with the highest determination to prevent the epidemic from spreading widely.

A representative of the Vinh City Economic Department said that the city has directed the Nghi Duc Commune Disease Prevention and Control Steering Committee to synchronously and seriously implement solutions to contain the epidemic, cordon off dangerous areas, spray chemicals and spread lime powder in the outbreak area. At the same time, assign forces to be on duty to prevent the illegal sale of poultry outside, increasing the risk of spreading the epidemic.

In addition, the key task is to urgently vaccinate the entire poultry flock in the commune, estimated at about 45,000 birds. Of which, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine supports Nghi Duc commune with 20,000 doses, the remaining amount will be funded by the local government and the people themselves.

In addition, the city also issued an urgent document, directing neighboring localities in high-risk areas such as Nghi Phu, Hung Loc, Nghi An... to proactively take epidemic prevention measures such as increasing vaccination, cleaning barns, and strictly controlling the buying and selling of poultry in the area.

A representative of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine said: This is the time of year when the risk of an outbreak of disease is high, especially after the recent floods, when the virus has conditions to develop. Therefore, farmers must focus on vaccination, ensure hygiene of barns, and regularly disinfect. When poultry show symptoms, people need to immediately report to the authorities and not arbitrarily destroy them. People need to raise awareness of protecting their livestock, especially during the Tet holiday.

Previously, on October 6, 2022, the H5N1 avian influenza outbreak also occurred at the family of Mr. Phan Trong Minh, Hoa Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district. The authorities destroyed 2,500 ducks of the family and successfully controlled the outbreak.

H5N1 is a type of influenza A virus that can cause serious infectious diseases in poultry. Influenza A H5N1 can be transmitted from poultry to humans. When infected, the mortality rate can be up to 60%.

Symptoms of H5N1 flu in poultry: Sudden death for unknown reasons; Breast, legs, and comb turn purple; Head, comb, eyelids, and wattles show signs of swelling; poultry lay fewer eggs, eggshells are deformed or soft; Loss of appetite, lethargy; Ruffed feathers.

Symptoms of H5N1 flu in humans: high fever over 38 degrees, cough, sore throat, muscle pain... In some people, initial symptoms such as abdominal pain, chest pain, vomiting or diarrhea may also appear. The virus infection has a high risk of rapidly progressing into dangerous respiratory diseases (such as Acute Respiratory Syndrome - difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, pneumonia) or neurological effects (convulsions, abnormal mental states).
