Russian ship rescues Ukrainian ship crew in Mediterranean

Russia's Vice Admiral Kulakov ship has rescued the crew of a Ukrainian fishing boat in distress in the Mediterranean Sea, the Russian Defense Ministry announced.

Vice Admiral Kulakov is a large anti-submarine ship of the Northern Fleet currently in the Mediterranean, participating in the permanent squadron of the Russian Navy.

The Vice Admiral Kulakov ship received an SOS signal and immediately approached the Ukrainian fishing boat number 097 in the port of Mariupol, which had seven Ukrainian citizens on board, two of whom were injured. Russian sailors and doctors assisted the victims.

"The Russian Navy is determining the need to evacuate Ukrainian sailors, the possibility of restoring the fishing vessel to its own power or towing it to the nearest port," the Defense Ministry said.
