Greedy for 1 million dong, must pay with life sentence

On August 16, 2018, the People's Court of Ha Tinh province opened a trial for defendant Nguyen Nhu Ba (born in 1975, residing in Thanh Chuong district, Nghe An province) and sentenced him to life in prison for the crime of "Illegal transportation of narcotics".

According to the indictment, on January 3, 2018, Ba rode a motorbike with license plate number 37K6 - 1041 from Thanh Chuong district, Nghe An province to a friend's house in village 5, Son Hong commune, Huong Son district (Ha Tinh) to play.

At about 3:00 p.m. on January 4, 2018, Ba rode a motorbike to Laos to buy agricultural products to sell.

When he arrived at Lan Bon Bridge (Broken Bridge) in Son Hong Commune (Huong Son District), he met two Lao men walking with a pig. Ba stopped his car, asked about it, and bought the pig for 1.9 million VND.

Ba was hired to transport a "huge" amount of drugs for 2 Laotians in exchange for 1 million VND.

After buying the pig, two Lao men asked to transport drugs from Lan Bon bridge to village 5, Son Hong commune, Huong Son district for 1 million VND and Ba agreed.

After receiving 4 packages of drugs, Ba hid them in his jacket pocket and drove his motorbike to village 5, Son Hong commune.

However, when Ba went to Da Gan Border Control Station, Son Hong Border Station, he was discovered and arrested by the authorities.

During the search, the authorities seized from Ba 4 black plastic bags containing 40 small plastic bags, hiding 8,000 pink pills, 1 phone, 1 knife and 50 million VND.

At the trial, Ba admitted all his actions.
