Border teacher sentenced to 20 years in prison for 1 million dong
(Baonghean.vn) - Before being arrested for his involvement in a drug trafficking case, Xong Ba Xuan (Que Phong) was a physical education teacher at a local school.
On January 24, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Xong Ba Xuan (born in 1979); residing in Tri Le commune, Que Phong district, Nghe An province, on charges of "Illegal transportation of narcotics".
At the time of his arrest, Xong Ba Xuan was a physical education teacher at Tri Le Secondary School, Que Phong District (Nghe An).
According to the indictment, on September 18, 2023, after attending the funeral of an acquaintance, Xong Ba Xuan returned home to Na Nieng village (Tri Le commune). When he reached Pa Khom intersection (Tri Le commune), Xuan stopped to rest and met a Lao man,Mong peopleAfter the conversation, knowing that Xuan was going home, the man asked Xuan to transport 1 cake of drugs to a meeting point in the area for 1 million VND.
Xong Ba Xuan agreed, “hid the goods” behind his pants and drove towards the commune center. At around 7:30 p.m. the same day, when Xuan arrived at Lam Hop village, he was caught red-handed by the authorities, holding on his person a cake of drugs weighing 349.37 grams.
At the trial, Xuan admitted his crime. The defendant repented and hoped to receive the lightest sentence possible so that he could have a chance to start his life over. Considering the case as a whole, the panel sentenced Xong Ba Xuan to 20 years in prison for “Illegal transportation of narcotics”.
